How much ram can you get on computer?

I think add more ram to this computer? I got 512 ddr ram( i think?)

..Hey Sci , it should say in the manual that came with you're Computer , either there or look at the Gateway website ( If I remember right thats what you have ) ??
either place should have some info on what kind and how much ram that you're Mobo will take , but really , 512 k is plenty of ram for most users ...thats all i have in mine too , but it will use up to a Gig or more if i ever need it ..........

if you run 3d mark 2001 in the ifo section it tells you how many sticks and max ram amount on there, example 3 blocks of 512mbs, on my computer it is 3x128mbs.

Sci, 512 is the sweetspot for ram and windows. Don't bother adding anymore ram. Save your money for your next computer -- a 4 Ghz monster! :lol:

512 MB should be enough. your computer manual should tell you the maximum you can have. I can't remember the details of your computer, but the max is probably between 1 GB to 4 GB.

um, 3 x 128 MB does not equal 512 MB.
3 x 128 MB is 384 MB
4 x 128 MB is 512 MB

What is happening now with your computer that would cause you to look at adding more RAM, Scify?

I bought the fastest processor I could afford (2.53 gig) and had 1 gig of RAM installed by Dell when I ordered this computer. But then I was always planning to use this rig for digital photography, and wanted the extra RAM for photo editing tasks. Sometimes when I'm working and printing this machine slows down a lot anyway.

Are you in a similar situation Scify?

clemm thats completely right 3x128mbs is 384 which is exactly the amount i have as thats all my system will take if you read it the first was example the second is what it says about mine :roll: :roll: :roll:

how much ram you can have depends on your mother board. If you read the documentation that came with the motherboard you should be able to find out how much you can put in. (said before)

as was said above....I don't see any reason you need more than 512 ddr....if it is running choppy or slow....then you may need to mod your bios....you may not have the ddr speed dialed in.
If that is the case, catch me online and I can walk you through it. i would need to know the exaxt ddr ram you are pushing. There is also the possibility that your motherboard doesn't support the speed of you ram....in that case consider a mb upgrade...

could be lots of things....

I am running a 2400 athlon with 512/400 ddr ram.....and it is fast as shizzle.

You may just consider building a new pc....
