 Post subject: CG is now accepting 16 players

I've been beaten up for a long time to set the max player load from 12 up to 16 and have done so. According to network specifications for UT, if it actually fills all the way, it should be laggy as hell so this is really just a test. If I get away with it, I might go for a record 18 just because lots of people search the servers to play on by player load. If any of you are on and I actually hit full load, please report here how it played so I can determine the needs of the players better. Thank you.

yes, CG maxed out at 16 last night (a good mix of regulars and newbies), and it was funny as hell (imagine on a Deck variant the top 6 players or so ended the game in the 20s and the rest in single digits). that was at the expense of the pings though, Death Inc (as Tommy), who consistently pings in the 50s, would get into the 200s at times. I (as ARWEN_EVENSTAR) had pings upwards into the 400s (normally in the low 200s). I'd say the sweet spot is somewhere between 12 and 16. so, ARWEN will prefer that we lower from 16.

I'm glad to see it loaded and didn't crash. Pings in the 200's is very acceptable to me. It's when they get to 300+ that I notice the game going to hell. I've seen some play at 400 and not complain before. So what i think I'm hearing though is that you think I should reduce it back down a little? More input is welcome!

I had no probs with it set at 12 players, but lately I have found that 16 players is ok most of the time but that you get some very disorienting ping spikes on occaision. Perhaps 14 is the magic number?

I'm not ignoring you Clem. I'm just waiting to get some more input. I figure it should hit 16 a couple of times a day. I have seen 15 but not the full load yet. Personally, I don't like a full house. I like about 4-6 players and 8 at the max. I hate the small fast maps but it's about what the group wants not just my opinion. See that! I am getting better at this. Hell, free cussing and drugs for everyone!!! Wait a sec. Maybe I'm getting a little out of hand. Lets see what goes on for about another week and then we'll look at cutting it down to a max of 10 to see if that improves play for the lesser fortunate internet challenged folks out there. I can tell a difference just based on how much of my body parts i can see when I explode. Too many players and I get robbed of several gibs I'm sure.

seemed to have a higher ping last night,

but
I must say my connection isnt been holdin well, its dropped from 950kbps to 750kbps, im ganna ring the isp, give'em some of my mind, :evil: :twisted:

I think some one has had ago at gettin into my computer, they have to go throught the server, them to mine, god knows how they managed to get to port scan mine, o well nm.

But the server seems ok to me, :D

yes, wait for more input; I'd have done the same thing. I'm just letting you know how the game play was like from my end with 16 players. I don't mind the server hitting 16 every once in a while (why would I? it's so much fun having 16 on medium to small maps.). but if new players come in and find the server to be laggy, then more than likely they'd leave (and others may leave too). that may be why we don't hit 16 very often. so if we don't consistently reach 16 players, I figure it's probably better to lower the max player count, hence ARWEN's vote of lowering from 16. if I remember correctly, 12 plays fine from my end (56K).

don't need to cut it down to 10. 12 is fine with me. I'd try 14 next.

Yes for god's sakes Herm don't go down to 10!!! After all the progress we've made ... :lol:

12 people was rockin before. I just wanted to see if we could push the envelope, esp as your upload got better. I haven't been lucky enough to catch the 16 fullhouse yet, but I'm looking forward. I bet it is funny as all hell!!!

When it fills up to 16, we should call a truce and all jump around. That would crack everyone up to no end. :lol:

another vote here for not going down to 10. since BH reported that 15 was smooth, I would give 16 another try. maybe the high pings I saw that time were just an unusual anomaly. ARWEN reserves the right to change her vote.

I saw 16 tonight. I can't believe that nobody mentioned it either. Here is what I noticed. The pings all pretty much seemed fair enough but there was still miscommunication somewhere because like before, player's names were being replaced by Player 11 and Player 13 and so on. I don't consider that successful. I was able to play about five rounds and they all seemed great to me but I don't count being that I'm playing on my own LAN with a ping of < 20.

I'm thinking that I should reduce the player load to 14 and see what happens then. If players get renamed again then I'll take it back to 12 maximum players. What do you think? Chime in and rock the vote. Better hurry too because I'm still thinking that 10 might be the magic number!
