I saw that your server was down for a few days. I was hopeful that your IP didn't change based on what I had told you earlier. I was about to remove the server from favs and go hunting for it again but I see it's back up and has someone playing on it as we speak. Looks like you got to keep the IP. Good for you! Now we have to figure out something for your high speed downloads. The name you gave the server is a good one since it's high in the alphabet. I considered that myself when I came up with CG's name. I doubt too many people search through the whole list when it's sorted alphabetically. It's good to be near the top and it might be even better to have a good ping rate too. The last search method I use when looking for servers is players in the server. Actually I use that standard second and then the ping comes in last. Bo and I use the same web service. I think it's the best out there myself. If you can blow a tiny bit of money, you should consider getting yourself some space so you can pin up those 200+ maps you're sporting on your server now. It will increase your player load X 10 at least.

I just went into a game that you and Nameless were in the middle of. The map was called DM-Raiden. I double clicked to connect and it downloaded BDBMapVote3.02 to me and then started to connect me. I was in for about three seconds and I got the Red Flag of Lagg and then the connection failed. I've seen this happen on NWRO a couple of times as well. Please tell me what the log said if you looked or see me come in again and the connection fails. BTW, Mapvote is now up to version 3.04 and it will make all of the difference to upgrade your version. If you are missing a file, the server will go into a terrible loop of switching between maps and the last map until you have to reboot. Ver. 3.04 fixes it so everyone gets a quick disconnect but it doesn't crash the server or them and the server will auto-cycle to the next available map without having to reboot etc.

I went on at least three time today looking for your server, Bigi. Am I missing something? Is the name still the same?

Bigi told me that he has just built a new box. I think he's sorting out the server today.

Thanks herm. I put together my new box this weekend.

Amd Athlon Xp 2400 Thoroughbred, Albatron KX400-8X board, slapped in a stick of 512 pc3200 DDR. Finally bought a new western digital hd 40gb....tired of maxtors...had one fail last weekend, only 8 montsh old. my new box has a side and rear fan the are light...neat. Also bought a Samsung DVD rom. I was so close to buying a P4 it wasn't funny. But in the end...decided to stick to amds...lol.

Thing runs like a champ.

I did a fresh install of my ut, should take care of those misc downloads at the first login. I wasn't aware there were multiple versions of the map vote when I put it on. I found the ver 304 today and installed it. I played it one time to see if it was working right. All speeds set at 110%. Seems to be running ok.

Yea herm, you must have been joining right as I rebooted. I was installing my second hard drive...I had gotten on to let nameless know...lol...bad timing.

Also, it appears they did change my ip this weekend. I did have the router unplugged for a bit yesterday while I was running some cables. Probably happened then.

I was searching for some webspace today. It appears there are many sites available for hosting space. I saw some free ones, but most have a transfer max per day/month.

I was wondering what sites everyone uses to host there stuff.

Also. I think I can get a second IP for $5 a month which I think may be cheaper than getting some webspace...I could either gang the ips to double my bandwidth or direct the second ip to my other box for redirect downloads....
Although I am not sure how to do that yet, but am sure it is possible...

any thoughts?

Well. I have had the server up for a week. straight. No crashes. No Ip changes.

I have had a problem with my network card disconnecting from the router. I haven't resolved the issue yet. I disabled all power saving options on the card but it still does it. So, if you can't access the server sometimes that may be why. Usually happens during weekdays when I am at work...I reenable it when I get home if has happened.

I am getting better upload speeds with the router. Getting 182 up on my last test. I should be able to support upto 12 players ....so I set it up at 12 now.

Started doing backups of all of my maps. Just incase a drive fails.

Also, I am trying to keep a copy of all maps that I have that are not included in CG map packs or standard install maps, so if anyone wants me to zip them and send them I can.

Not much luck on the fast redirects. Most sites just cost more than I am willing to pay for the space. Some sites offer free webspace, but have limited bandwidth/transfer per day/month...that sucks. My wife just stopped work to go back to school fulltime and I have the new baby...so I have to make it work on my income. Just hope I don't have to cut the cable internet. By my budget estimates we shouldn't have a problem.

I have begun working on a website. Am writing it from scratch in a text editor because I want to learn everything I can about html, so bear with me. (The more I know, the more job security I have...lol)

I would like to host a tournament soon, but I don't know how. Will get some info and get back to you all.

Here you go Bigi. It's what I use for CG. 500mb web space, 150-300 email accounts, 30gb transfer a month limit. $7.95/Month! Actually that's 94.50/Yr. I love it and don't ever see changing from it.
