MacHermskii here. I now have a official copy of the UnrealTournament MacWare. For you PC nerds, that's UT for a Mac (hehehehehe).

I need to know the order of installing stuff now. Here's what I know have and know so far:

Basic UT install
Umod Installer
436 Patch
Bonus Pack One
OSX Patch

I have the above items and suspect that I need to install them in that order. Hey JimmyNeutron, I'll need to talk with you about some of these other things that are on the disk you sent me with the game.

I installed the UT last night but didn't install the Umod Installer. I then installed the 436 patch but it never launched the second part where it would ask me to put the UT disk back in. I didn't think anything of it and went on and installed Bonus Pack One. I launched the game and it asked me for the UT disk again which it shouldn't have if the 436 patch installed properly so I went back and tried to reinstall the 436 patch but now it craps out during the copying file phase claiming a certain file was invalid or something like that. I'm stuck at this point. I'd like to unistall all of it and start over. Please chime in with MacHelp my MacFriends. MacThanks!

Herm I've had UT on my machine for quite some time without any hitches but I did install this way back when that patch for OSX came out a couple years ago. It may be that Jaguar doesn't like UT but i doubt it. I did all my installing prior to the Jaguar release so that's the only reason why i might think that could be it. Or perhaps you need to install the Umod before you install the patch.
You can try this though. Wipe out anything on your system UT related first and foremost. UT natively runs in classic mode(OS9) so OSX will launch classic when you use the UT installer. I personaly have found that things run more smoothly when launching classic prior to trying to use an old installer for a prog. Go into your preferences. That's the little light switch down on the left side of your dock. Down under the SYSTEM heading is a icon for classic mode. Click on that and then hit start and wait for OS9 to boot up. Now you can run the UT installer.
By the way weren't there previous patches to the 436. Herm what version is the CD that JN sent you. If it's an older version you may need to add the other updates prior to the 436 update. Just a thought. It's been a very long time since I had to install UT on an OSX machine.

First and foremost, I'd like to unistall everything I've already put on that is UT related. I can't figure out how to do that. Once I've done that, I'll try what you suggested. Thanks!

Ummmm? So how do you uninstall stuff? I have it installed to the HDD. I'm guessing that is the root.

Ok herm first you want to check the UT CD. I'm not sure if there is an uninstall option on the CD but there may be. If not what you want to do is search yuor Hard drive for anything UT. Most of your stuff should just be in your Applications folder on your HD. You can just drag that stuff to the trash. You can check your hard drive for UT files by going up to File and scrolling down to FIND. You can also set your finder window to allow you to search your hard drive. Double click your Hard drive or click on the smiley down in the dock. then go to the top of your screen and click on view. Scroll down and select customize toobar. Click on the SEARCH icon and drag it up to the tol bar. now you can search your hard drive. This may already be the default setting so don't go through all this if you see a search section in your finder window.

That's one thing Windows has over Jaguar. Add/Remove Programs.

That's because it's needed on Windows. On the Mac the usual method of un-installing a program is really complicated:

1) find the folder the program is installed in (hint, it's in the Applications folder).

2) drag the program's folder into the Trash.

3) optional: empty the Trash.

Pretty difficult, huh?

This is true Jarg but from what I've heard people still seem to find files from programs they've supposedly removed using that little utility. :D

Hermski JN speaks the truth but sometimes little files like preferences and such can be found in the system & User libraries. I suggested using the search as a way of just eliminating all things UT. Though just dragging the UT folder to the trash should be sufficient.

Ready? Which of our lovable Mac users here is playing UT on a new Mac? I ask because it seems that eveyone here who does play on a Mac installed it years ago and on top of Classic OS9 at that. Is anyone running 10.2 Jag from a machine that cannot boot into OS9? I am still getting errors. The game installs fine and runs OK. The 436 patch doesn't seem to install. If you have Mac version of 436 on your Mac, does it still require the disk to play??? Mine with 436 installed still ask for the disk. In the PC version, 432 and up all came with a no cd crack built in. Feel the frustration. I just want to install it so I can try to beat some of you with a single button mouse. Oh the shame!

Q: Do I need the CD in the computer to play the game?

A: If you are playing with a version of UT prior to the 436 patch, YES. After you install the 436 patch, the CD check is no longer used. i.e. you can play without the CD in the game. You must do a FULL install of the game in order to not play with the CD however.

And it may be true that you'll have to remove the CD from the drive too.

Herm,

It appears that you're breaking new ground here.

I'll try and give you a hand though... When I get a chance, I'm gonna try and install UT using classic mode under 10.26 (Just like what you are forced to do). I'll let you know what I come up with in a day or two.

How did you install UT and the OSX patch Max?

It's a shame that the gamemakers consider UT to be dead.

Hermski I did install Unreal in classic Mode but it was prior to the Jaguar update. Did you try starting classic mode prior to the installation of the game as well as the patch like I had suggested?

OK, I had no problem installing UT, the 436 update and the bonus packs.

Herm, make sure you launch the updates using the Umod Utility after the initial 436 install. The first install only copies the umod files to your UT directory) Once all that crap is done just unstuff the OSX Patch files and copy them to the UT directory. Launch UT using the new Carbonized version "Unreal Tournament OS X".

I have a few issues with the UT/OSX patch that I can't seem to figure out:

a. Lack of sound control. Weapons and voices seem to be at max volume and cannot be lowered.

b. I cannot get the UI to minimize.

c. Command Key functions do not work (how the hell am I suppose to add the servers to my favorites?)

d. Mouse sensitivity seems a little off from the OS9 version.

That is my rant for now. Hope that Helps Herm. How do you get around these problems Max?

Who knows how to do this in OSX 10.2.6?

Q: My mod/mutator won't install?

A: Most of the time, this is because the UMOD file was corrupted
somehow during download. UMOD files can be easily corrupted
after download when Stuffit Expander decodes and unzip's them.

Make sure that you have Stuffit Expander set to NEVER convert text
files when decompressing. You need to go into file->preferences
for stuffit expander, then select cross platform from the menu.

Select "CONVERT FILES TO MACINTOSH" and select NEVER.
Close, and save prefs. THEN expand that .zip file.

This info is all great and stuff but once again, I think it's for an earlier version than what I have. Who here has OSX, my version? I am trying right now to arrange it so it installs under OS9 but let me say that based on what I've read and I read a ton today, UT was never actually completely ported to OSX. Am I right here? Technically, I can't play it without error on this Mac due to my hardware and firmware. I haven't given up yet but I'm starting to think that this is sad. I think I can however play UT2K3 on my Mac without any problems. Too bad I didn't plan to use it for UT2k3. I will do as requested by my Mac brothers one at a time and will post my results.

a. never had a problem with sound Torp.

b. Minimizing of the screeen is not supported with the OSX patch (This patch is not an official patch. A patch was actually never going to be made for UT but someone took it upon themselves to do it.)

c. I just right click Torp. Tell me your not playing with a one button mouse.

d. Never noticed much difference with mouse sensitivity but i suck so bad at this game that it wouldn't much affect my play anyway.

Herm did you follow my directions on the last post. I can't figure out for the life of me why your having problems. Did you launch classic (OS9) prior to doing all the installs?
