My wife cratored the PC again today for what I hope is the last time. Right while I was almost done uploading about 30 new maps too. I had to start all over. I have had it with her touching my main system too so today we went shopping.

Here is a breakdown of what we got.

First of all it's the smaller of the 2 iMacs. Actually, my wife is already using it and she loves it. Something about a music library that she is enjoying right now. I got the Office pack with it and .com service and the three year warranty. It came with a printer some clear speakers a wierd keyboard and a few other goodies. I will need to get UT for MAC now. I plugged it in and turned it on and it works. I must admit that it was pretty easy. Here is the breakdown:

15-inch LCD flat screen
800MHz PowerPC G4
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX
32MB DDR video memory
256MB SDRAM
60GB Ultra ATA hard drive
10/100BASE-T Ethernet
56K V.92 internal modem
Apple Pro Speakers
AirPort Ready
Bluetooth Optional

It came with a bunch of software too. My wife wants the IPod now too.

I got the whole thing for just under $1,800 US) The base package sold for $1.299 but I bought the extra warranty and support and other stuff. I will expect the MAC folks here to support the crap out of this effort for me. First things first! Where the hell do I get UT for MAC?

sell out. just kidding. good luck with that crap. Probably good for your average user, but not enough functionality for me. Wait till you start having hardware fail.

Did you read the description of the game? That's not UT they are talking about. I think it's Unreal or Unreal2. I didn'r play either but that description certainly isn't for UT and that price isn't right either!

Hey Herm, I could try and send you a burned copy.

Welcome to the world of Macintosh Herm's wife. If you have any questions, feel free to ask either Maximus, Metalman or I.

Thanks Torp! I'm actually on this MAC right now. I have already learned quit a bit about this thing from just yesterday. I have to give MAC some credit here. It was certainly easier to set up than a PC would have been if I weren't a computer person. I really did just have to plug in all of the usb items like mouse and keyboard, then I plugged in the network cable and turned it on and was done! I had the MAC store update it before I took it from there. They totally updated everything in less than 45 minutes. Even on XP, getting the patches would have taken well over and hour and I would have had to reboot about 6 times. This hasn't crashed or requested a reboot once. The "Dock" at the bottom is very cool. My wife says she likes the keyboard because it feels good and types easy. I don't like that I can't put it on the little legs to tilt it up like most keyboards. I'm going to start a thread called MAC questions and answers. I'll post my problems and general questions there from this point forward. Eventually, it should become the biggest thread this forum has ever had I imagine. Thank you for your support.

Thanks N6. I think it's wierd that it comes with two OS's on it. They are both built on Unix too. I sort of look at it like this. OSX is on OX9 which is on Unix. So far so good.

sniffff......sniffff...I think i'm gonna cry!!! snifff....sob.....

Herm, Welcome to the wonderful world of NO PROBLEMS!!!! Dont listen to bigi, I have had my Mac for 7 years now and NOTHING that was Mac original has failed on me. I have only added a video card, RAM, and an extra drive to it, and I can still beat some of you in the arenas!!! pretty pathetic....all you PC folk should be slinking back into the pile of driver floppy discs (whats a floppy disc? HAHAHAH Or...what the hell is a driver!!? AHAHAHAH) you own!

Does it have iMovie installed? If so you are in trouble!! Its just too freaking addictive! If you have a DV camera you are going to be plagued for some time! In fact we may never see you again!!!

Your wife must be having a ton of fun with iTunes! Isn't it nice to have a program that does a million things FOR you rather than you having to find a different program for each thing (ripping, burning, compressing, surfing, buying online, etc)
I think thats why i have always loved the Mac....it does the work for you...not the other way around.

Well I will restrain myself until some boring PC diatribe presents itself so I can smash it down AGAIN!!
Welcome to the fold young jedi!!!!

It does have iMovie but we don't have a DV camera.............yet! Well said about the iTunes. It's true. It does everything for you. It's a one stop solution. I will suffer with thing until I grasp how MAC thinks to do things but I'm sure I'll come around. I play on it every once in a while but I find the ease of knowing exactly what I'm doing on a PC keeps me on mine more than hers. Today is my MACs 1 day old birthday. It's gowing up so fast.

Herm, send me email and I'll send you my real paid-for copy of UT for the Mac. I don't expect to be needing mine, and it's not worth the trouble to sell it.

Send to JamesAndVanessa1 at comcast.net, and include your shipping address.

Actually Herm OSX rubs on top of the unix platform but OS9 is almost like an application. At least thats the way I see it.

By the way herm If you got a .Mac subscription when u purchased your iMac and you get the isight or a digital camera I can video conference with you to talk you through how to do some things. let me know if you get one. The iSight is like $129. It works with a free prog called iChat which allows people with a .Mac or AIM to talk with each other. Although you can't video conference with AIM folks yet. You may need to dload the public beta of iChat. U will also need a .mac subscription to be able to vid conference.
