My dear friends,
Thank you so much for your messages of condolence. We buried mom yesterday, in Duncan, Oklahoma.
I conducted the graveside service for her. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but I felt it was something I had to do. She had outlived her brothers and sisters, her husbands, her friends, and her ministers. As her only child, I was the only one left to speak for her. As hard as it was to do, it was also possibly the greatest honor I have ever known.
I didn't focus on the loss, but on the remarkable gift to all of us that her life had been. Several of those present mentioned loving memories, most of them humorous. I played my guitar while my wife sang two songs my mom had requested, and we closed the service with all present singing 'How Great Thou Art'.
Thanks again for your words of support, my friends. I hope in the far, far distant future I can return the kind gesture to one or more of you. But let's make it a few years, okay???
