For some time I've been using a Logictech optical mouse. It is really nice, for everything except guiding in UT. I tried in game sensitivity changes, and slid the pointer speed tab back and forth under mouse properties, all to no avail. I finally decided that the speckled design on my desk's surface was too coarse. If I had to make a sudden course correction for my rocket, it would oversteer to one side, and I would be forced into more and more violent correction attempts to straighten the path, and would usually crash into a wall, even in huge maps like Hall of Giants. :?
I delved into advanced properties one more time, and this time I must have stumbled onto a layer of choices an extra step inside the advanced properties that I previously overlooked. I found that I can increase the sampling rate from 100 inputs per second to 200. I tried that; rebooted; and went into Halls of Redemption at HOH. Everything seems a lot smoother now, and even deliberate oversteering can usually be corrected, if there's room and time.
I just thought I'd post this little tidbit of info, in case anyone else ever suffers from the same problems. Try increasing the sampling rate. It just may be the ticket. :D
