Damn you cable folks have some fast connections! I thought DSL was supposed to be much faster. Lemme try that test.

Mah, DSL is supposed to be more deterministic since you do not share the bandwidth with the other users on the same trunk.

I used to have cable here in Menlo Park, but was disgusted with their service. They went from CO-OP-> @home -> ATT -> Comcast. When service was spotty for more than 2 months I changed over to DSL and I never looked back. I have a static IP, Servers are explicitly allowed and I only had two outages (1hour of less) in the last two years. I consistently get 1.3MBits/128Kbits. If I pay $15/month more, I can get 256KBits up ...

Unless the Cable providers change their policies, I will not go back.

Your raw speed was 431871.73 bits per second which is the same as:

Communications

431.9 kilobits per second
How communication devices are rated. Kilo means 1,000 and mega means 1,000,000. Examples include 56k modem and 10Mbit Ethernet

Storage

52.7 kilobytes per second
The way data is measured on your hard drive and how file sharing and FTP programs measure transfer speeds. Kilo is 1,024 and mega is 1,048,576.

1MB file download

18.4 seconds
The time it would take you to download a 1 megabyte file at this speed.

Rating

Compared to all connection types worldwide, yours is great

this is mine dont know if its good

Your download speed : 1447173 bps, or 1447 kbps.
A 176.6 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 140974 bps, or 140 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

You have got to be kidding....
I suppose that if my connection were fairly stable (instead of jumping from 200 to 600 ms, then back to 200) I would not complain.

no, not kidding here.. MindSpring / EarthLink has worked very well for me from the beginning.

my connection has been quite stable.. high 100s to the 200s according to the F1 screen (stat net will give you a different number). ping spikes does happen to me but it has not been bad enough to cause me to go broadband.

I'm content with what I have now, and I always like the challenge of taking on players with better connections. the only drawback I see with 56k is the long file downloads. but then, with the redirected fast downloads working, that isn't as much of an issue.

think of the hundreds of dollars of savings per year I have with 56k over broadband.. I can do more machine upgrades with that..

Trigon your icon cracks me up. Every time I see it and read your posts I hear it in my mind by the voice of that ol' gruff D.I.

I run cable, I wish it was something like super trunk line so it would sound bigger and bolster my waning manhood.

Mine does fluctuate a lot. I was told it was because they allocate so much bandwidth to certain secters, accounting for peak times and what not...they aren't always perfect I guess. Like I said, I usually get about mid 130's on upstream...I was impressed when I saw that 180. although, I haven't run the test since I got my new toshiba modem...I will try during peak time sometime.

For the most part, on cable, your upstream is your only limitation as far as I know...most companies provide ample downstream...they could be a couple fools living next to you sucking up all the upstream.

Cable. Well, until the end of the month anyway.

I didn't bother with the tests because I always got one of the fastest results in previous threads we did like this one. Cogeco Cable Canada isn't afraid to charge top dollar, but I get what I pay for. :|

Hey One, what DSL provider you got...like those numbers at that price. Adelphia has been suckin crap. I lost connection for 2 hours last thursday....I checked all my shit, then called a friend 20 miles away and he was down too. I assume they where rebooting their servers for the Win/Blaster update virus...but they should have emailed us....pricks.

I think that shit was sent out by microsoft. As you all know, they no longer support NT system updates....hmmmm....good way to make NT users by some new software....ya think...fn pricks.

Think about it...it was fairly harmless....and attacked their site....which for the record, was not the proper winupdate site anyway....the site it attacked was an old name...that was auto redirected to the correct site....and what did they do...., they just turned off the redirect....

For instance, I am running dual copies of win2k. I loaded both os weekend before last. My C: system had Nortan Antivirus on it. My E: system did not. My C: system got infected and crashes everytime I reboot. My E: sys has been running fine for a week and a half now....I am pretty sure my E: sys is infected...helll, I run cable... But it still runs like dream....kinda makes you think.
....and it was highly publicized....conspiracy...i think so....

Excellent marketing strat if you ask me....thanks bill dickwad....I am switching to linux as soon as I learn it.
