Which router did you get there Scify and are you sure it's a router? Never heard of a router that didn't include a built-in firewall of some sort. Even the cheapo Linksys ones have one so it goes back to the question..........which router did you get and are you definately sure it's a router?

What is the model number on the linksys? Most new routers have built in firewalls...as far as I know. I will look it up for ya.

What ISP do you use and do you already run another firewall? Just took a quick look...

If I'm not mistaken Sci the linksys is set up with a version of zone alarm and set for 64 bit encryption by default. I changed mine to 128 bit. you can get the pro version of zone alarm right from the router set up page. The router should be ready to go right out of the box though. I have a different model but it is a linksys as well.

That is the exact same version I have. It has a built-in firewall and you should be able to get to the options for it by typing in 192.168.1.1 in your internet explore address bar and i believe that if you haven't changed any options on it before that you leave the user name blank and type in "admin" with no quotes for the password and that should get you into you options for the router itself. From there you might want to ask one of these other computer guys because I'm still learning what all the options mean in here.

So yes it has a built-in firewall........maybe not the best but a firewall never the less. Hope that helps out alittle.

Thanks for that bit of information, Kid. I've written it down for future reference. I don't remember ever seeing any instructions for the router. The setup program on the cd seemed to want me to just run it and leave things alone. :?: :?

you can try 192.168.2.1 as well Scify. Your modem may be using 192.168.1.1. That was the case with mine anyway.
