I just got the map packs, I unRARed them and instead of UNR files I got UNR.UZ files, which seem to bear no relation to the maps, and crash UT. I'm using the rar command with the Linux version of UT...what's gone wrong?

Here's how to deal with the UTZ files....

> 1) download the files from the redirect server to your
> c:\ut\system directory. They will come in a .uz2 file
> extension (this is compressed)
>
> 2) start -> run -> command -> cd\ -> cd c:\ut -> cd system
>
> 3) type ucc decompress ( filename ).unr.uz
>
> 4) copy the now uncompressed files to their appropriate directories

I think I moved and changed some files around on my web server where the links you used pointed to and you got the .uz files instead of the .unr version. I will ask the admin of www.redeemerInsanity.com to remove my links until I can assure him they will work properly. Sorry for that. I'll get on it right away.

But I have the Linux version, which doesn't support batch decompression...and in fact didn't decompress anything, even with single files...

*sigh* Damn my penguin-influenced desire to be different... The irony is, that on Windows XP, apparently the superior gaming platform, UT doesn't work :D

http://www.sujee.net/geeky/ut.html has a script that does this all on the fly, even neatly removing all the .uz files at the end of it!

A big thank you to all who offered advice, now I at least know what the hell a .uz file is :-)

Herm, the offending map pack links have been removed. Drop me an email when you have it all straightened out again.

I have replaced the MapPack files with actual UNR files which are what I meant to have up on the server in the first place. What I'm saying is that now, if you download them, they should be good to extract straight into your map folder and be playable. Sorry for the confusion folks. My bad.
