Sorry I've been out of the loop for the past couple of days during the holiday weekend. Went off and got sick Saturday night so this is the first time I've seen this post.

From what I can tell its the redirect webspace being a pain and not being very realible. I'm still working out a fix for this so just bear with me. After I get that little tid bit knocked out I will be bring up and remake of the server with 30 maps instead of 18 like it is now.

Like I said just bear with me a bit and hopefully I get this fixed soon.

I think it is the small files that are culpable.

No need to compress them anyway.

Hmmmmm interesting. Didn't figure the small files would have anything to do with it but there is always that possibility. With that in mind I guess that would bring up another question (this one aimed at ADMINS).

If I use compressed files and non-compressed files on the redirect, is there anything i need to worry with in the .ini file?

I'm sitting at work typing this out so I don't have the .ini in front of me but I remember there being a line in there looking something like this:

UseCompression=True

Like I said.....can't remember the exact wording of it. I have this option set on true. Does this need to stay the same or does it need to be set on false? I can test out this theory later when I get home but was hope'n that one of the admins or anybody that would know off hand might spill the beans about it.

If it's the little files giving all the grief then using the uncompressed files might be the key to it all. Like I've said before.....any and all help is welcome and any comments good or bad are welcome too.

Thanks guys and gals,

P.S. Torp, Where in the heck did you find that animated gif you are using for your little icon? Can't figure out whether or not to be grossed out or not about it LOL.

I dunno actually. It's those additional files that always gave me hell so I switched to the single file maps. First time your hard drive crashes and you have to go through all of it again you'll understand. BTW, my hard drive has crashed 3 times. That's why I got tired of the multifile maps/skins/voicepacks/models/mutators etc. Every file that a newbie could possibly have to download to play on your server should be compressed and on the redirect in my humble opinion. The line you mentioned is:

UseCompression=True

That is what mine is set at for CG and HOH.

Here is another one to pay attention to:

AllowDownloads=True

I will play with these on HOH and see what they do. I have done this before but forgot the results. Later!

OK, I just tested it and for both settings you have to have them at True.

AllowDownloads=True and UseCompression=True.

They both do exactly what they describe. If AllowDownloads is set to false, you will get the error saying the server refused to send XXXXX file. If you set UseCompression to False, it will download the files at super slow speed. Make sure you have all of the files compressed and all of them that are required for that matter to avoid the MapVote Loop of Death. That does answer your questions I believe. Good luck.

Can't remember exactly where I found it Kid... I think maybe from one of those public domain animated gif sites.

Well thanks Herm for the heads up. With all these lines in the .ini file one can get lost pretty quickly. Got both the lines in question set to True now and didn't notice and problems.

I decided last night around midnight that I didn't have enuff maps on the server so I went thru and added a couple that should round the selection for now. Everything "SHOULD" be fine as far as I can tell. I tested the new stuff out and weeded any problem childern out so everything should be smooth. Let me know if anybody has problems with any of these. I should have a complete map list hopefully by later this evening.

Just a waring tho.......I have one map on there that seemed to give some lag for some reason. I'm not talking about PING lag but I think the size of the map and textures might make it run slow for some ppl. The name of the map is DM-Panzer. Thought it might be cool considering its another WWII looking map and is alot bigger than DM-Enemyatthegates. Max got on the server last night and said that map did give him some shutter but the ping was good so its got to be something else.

Good luck and hope the server is working for everybody.
