Is it just me, or are the new folks on the servers awesome for noobs? It took me forever to finally get good enough to be competitive, much less win a game. Now, the noobs are not only competitive, they're really good. Am I the only one to notice this :?:

Come on guys. Give yourself some credit. That's what we were saying about you guys a year ago. Lets just remember the important thing: Newbs! The more the better! It's just that many more people to get to win against. KB is the biggest turn around newb I ever saw. He used to be easy to beat. He stayed that way for a long time too. Now he's practically untouchable. I would have given the award to Death Inc but he's always been good. I never remember spanking him badly for months at a time. We will hopefully always have newbs show up and stick with it long enough to be a force. Look at Jester. He wasn't so great for the first several months and he can still get on even after months away and spank most of us pretty bad. Fun Fun Fun! Later!

Don't get me wrong. I think it is great that the noobs are doing so well. I was just thinking that maybe I was slipping. Look at how long it has taken me to get to the place where I can actually compete. Not that competing is the reason that I continue to play. I just really like all of the folks here.

Remember, the newbs that are kickin our asses are not so new anymore!

KB kicks our ass from a 56K modem -- doesn't get anymore edifying than that! Learns us good!

I've been noticing the same thing Jarg. Someone comes in and starts playing, and it only takes them a week or two to get good. I guess they've been playing a lot of regular UT or maybe QIII or some other FPS. Then it's just a matter of adapting to the new weapon? It took me forever to win my first match, but then I've never played any other game online. I found a good one, with a great group to play with, and have never bothered to try anything else. (Why would I?) :D

That fellow Aero that Scify mentions is good case in point. He is fast becoming a master at hide and guide. He was kicking my ass a lot in that map, and I had a hell of a time finding him. I couldn't live long enough against him and all the others to get an idea of where he was holed up, let alone be able to get at him, so I only got him twice. Ended up in last place, trying to find him.

That was a hinderance for me. After playing "normal" UT for years, I had a heck of a time getting used to the mass hysteria that is redeemer arena. It is a totally different concept. Why is it so many folks come on the servers saying that it takes no skill to play redeemers... I think it is funny that the folks that say it takes no skill are always in last place with negative frags. Now if someone new came on, kicked our butts, and said that, it might carry more weight.

Aero has been around, on and off, for a while. I seem to remember him/her playing in the winter months.

There is one noob that amazes me. A natural run and gunner. I can't remember their full name, but I always condense it to Callip. Anyway, this person is a natural run and gunner. Always gives me a fit when I play him/her. He or she has only been playing for a few weeks... and he/she already moves like a pro. Perhaps another Torpid in the making.

Yeah it's true,

It was last week and there was a tone of noobs (newer than me) that me and "Darkmatter" have never seen before4 and they was giving us a little friction.

But who ever says that there is no skill involved is still not knowing that redeemer DO NOT go through walls and that you can run away (cos I didn't know that at first :( ).

I like it when a noob fires at ya and you duck behind a box or something like and don't get killed its always your fault they didn't get ya and your fault they killed themselves tryin there are some new players that are quite good but remember that some of them are from europe / uk and play a lot during u.s sleepy hours tadpole pandora ('callip' also cant remember full name) and aero have been on for at least a few months i still consider myself fairly new and have only been playing on the servers four months and a few odd weeks but have been playing ut for few years and always loved the redeemer + sniper

Be aware that there are quite a few regulars that change their names, including me.

Normally, you put "torp" somewhere in your name though.
I did ask this noobie how long they have been playing. They said not long... Perhaps I have been duped. I tend to trust what folks say until given a reason to do otherwise.

LOL  You are one of the folks that I am refering too. You have improved so quickly. Much faster, it seems than most.

The name you folks are grasping for is Callipygian, I believe. I have seen him quite often at NWRO lately. A natural player, and seems to be quite friendly, also. We need more like him. Most of the n00bs are pretty good people, but there have been a few I just HAD to spawn a few monsters on due to thier trash-talking and whining...most do not realize that I am the admin until they start up with the nonsense and suddenly have several BoNasties chasing them down, tearing them apart...lol. I imagine that Haynes and Jockey should be sending me royalties any day now for the increase in undewear sales I have inspired with my nasty little friends... ;)

ps. For my buds that I have done this to, I am not being devilish...I am only trying to promote a healthier lifestyle via a nice lil' cardiovascular workout
