Sure windows might work...if this was an intel based PC. Of course, in the infancy of what is now known as Windows 2000/XP(actually NT 3.51), Microsoft did have a version that ran on the PowerPC architecture as well as the DEC Alpha in NT 4.0(Details <!--EZCODE LINK START--><a href="http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/winserver2k3_gold1.asp">here</a><!--EZCODE LINK END-->). Good old Billy Gates and his cohorts killed that though, so no dice Pimp. Even if windows could run on it, could it run well? Maybe it would, we will never know. They really should, since Big Blue puts out some rather beefy servers that use the PowerPC chips; I only know this from hearsay, since I don't have <!--EZCODE LINK START--><a href="http://www-132.ibm.com/content/home/store_IBMPublicUSA/en_US/eServer/pSeries/entry/6306E4_70286E4121E.html">$16,127</a><!--EZCODE LINK END--> to buy one for myself yet. Unfortunately it's not for playing games, but it would more than serve my needs. <br><br>You see, I view computers and operating systems in the same perspective that one would view a car. In certain situations, for example when just crusing around, you may find yourself wanting a car that is fun, easy to use, but not exactly long lived, like the last 50 S-10's that I've seen that were "Slammed" (lowered so bad that you see sparks fly out from underneath them when they take off from a stoplight), or like a chevette; these are your Windows PC's(win 95/98/ME/XP home). They are great for the people that use them, they serve their purpose and so on and so forth. For other situations, such as hauling drywall or 2x4's a light duty truck or SUV would be suitable. These are the people like myself and other admin's (you too Pimp?) That use a little higher class (usually) OS like WinNT/2000/XPPro or Linux, or even MacOS. Regardless of the perpetual p1$$1ng contest that seems to go on up here pertaining to the Mac vs. PC debate, you can (and I do) get work done on a Mac w/o too much hassle, usually less than the windows PCs on campus. Now if you were trying to do some major work, like preparing an area for real estate development or mining coal, you need something along the lines of bulldozers, graters, and some other earth-moving equipment. In the computer world, these are the mainframes that run AIX, or some proprietary OS that was designed specifically for that machine. Sometimes, you see people hauling a ton of $hit in their Pinto (100MHz P1 Win98 PC as a hub for a network of 200 PC's), using a 4wd pickup truck as a means to get the groceries home (Dual Xeon 2GHz w/ 4GB RAM to run MS Word) or calling 3 of your best friends with pickup trucks to help you move instead of renting a moving van(building a 100-node beowulf cluster with 486's). I guess what I am trying to say is that people work with what they got.<br><br>I am, and we should all be applauding Naut for his willingness to try to make his Mac do more than run MacOS. Way to go Naut, keep it up and you will have a shiny new fresh linux system yet! The first couple attempts I made to install it blew up on me too; that was 4 years ago, and now I can go from a blank system to a fully installed one in 1 - 4 hours, depending on the distribution. To the naysayers here's my recommendation: Take the blue pill, and check out what's beyond windows(and Mac too).
