Herm, you said that there is a way to keep the cache files intact for longer than 30 days. Could you please post this for me. I would hate to have to download all of these maps again next month.
Thanks
The Jargonaut

To keep your cache files for a long long time, do the following:

Launch the game.
At the game desktop or in the game itself, select the tilde key ( ~ ).
That will bring up your System Console Window.
At the bottom of the console there is a blank command line like where you type chat info in like on the mapvote screen.
Type the word “preferences” there without the quotes.
Now one of two things happens. Your PC crashes or the Advanced Options Window opens. Be careful in here. This is like your registry for UT and many changes are instant. No reboot required.
Click the + next to the Advance section.
That opens it to show you 4 optional sections to select.
Click the plus next to the File System section. Now it opens to offer other options.
Click on the number (30 by default), next to PurgeCacheDays.
The number turns blue as it is selected. Type 9999.
Close the Advanced Options Window.
Close the System Console Window.
Done!

Here’s an additional treat!

If you use D3D for your video renderer and want to see your actual frame rates do this:

Get back to the Advance Options Window.
Click the plus next to Rendering.
Click the plus next to Dierct 3D Support.
Find the UseVSync option and click on the True next to it.
It selects that option and offers a drop down menu to the right.
Drop down the menu and click on True.
Close Advanced Options window and Close System Console window.
Done!
Now to see the results do this:
I would restart the game.
At the UT Desktop, select the Tools from the menu.
Click Time Demo Stats.
Start your practice session or actual game.
Now you can see your frame rates in the right side of the screen. To turn that off just go back to the menu and select Time Demo Stats again.
Done!

If your machine crashed when you typed preferences in the system console the 1st time, let me know. I know how to fix that too. Later! Enjoy!

Hermskii

Thanks, Herm. It is done. I plan to change a few things in here, but I will be careful.
The Jargonaut

I set my cache purge to 99 days. That way, if a server drops a map, I get rid of it after a short while too.
And with fast downloads it's no problem to pick up the map again if I need it.
For 56k'ers I'd say go with 999 days. You probably should get that program UT Map Manager though. That way you can delete maps you don't want anymore cleanly, and install the ones you will use a lot permanently. I don't recall where to get the program though. Anyone have a link?
