Here is a good program for blocking spyware:

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Since I installed it, Ad-Aware and the other spyware scanners I've got have very, very, rarely found anything.
(It does not slow my computer down at all, either.)

Do you use ewido or a-squared if not try them and see what gets picked up by them.

I did use something called Trojan Hunter for the free month's trial a few months ago. It found nothing, except one false positive, and I used it a lot. I never got around to trying Ewido because TH didn't find anything, and at the time, it was considered a better program.

What are you finding with those two?

(Do you actually go to some of those warez sites that Skank is always giving us links to? :confused2: :laughing4: )

On day to day basis i run adaware and spybot (but SB hardly finds anything after adaware maybe i should run it first for a change) i also have blaster running as it does, but at the end of the week i run the other two and yes they usually find the odd thing nothing really nasty upto now but the odd spyware so i would try you got nothing to loose there both free just take the same precations as you hopefully did when using other scanners for the first time double check on its finds before you tell it to wipe them upto now i have had no false pos with them.
and no i dont goto them sites but anybody that does really should run the two i linked!!

Okay I've tried the two programs, finally. Thanks Darkmatter.

Ewido found two tracking cookies.
a-squared found about 7 items, one was ad-ware, 5 were tracking cookies, and one was an .exe file called:

C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hltv.exe

I don't want to remove this file. I'm pretty sure it's a false positive, but it is described as "Riskware.Server-Proxy.Win32.Hltv"

In what way is this file risky?

**Edit**

Holy baldy! I previously just ran Ewido in fast scan mode. I ran a thorough scan before I went to supper, and it found 72 more pieces of spyware! :confused2:

Many or most of them were in Firefox too, which I thought was more resistant to such attacks. :blackeye:

I think each of these programs determine what is a threat differently.

Why is it that you can defrag your hard drive using the tool that came with Windows XP and when your done ask Norton System Works if you need to defrag and it says yes? If you let Norton do the defrag to completion and then ask Windows XP if it needs it, it will say yes again...

That sort of brings me to my point. It depends on who you ask to determine the threat.

I use Spybot 1.4, the latest free Adaware and Spyware X-Terminator. They each find different stuff each time.

I would be more worried about having updated scan software first, then a firewall next and then spyware protection last.

That is just my opinion but you know I'll change it if you want me to.

Ok it gets worse use this page to check if your anti spyware is just that or is it spyware in disguise ?????

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

P.S i know the better programmes that are used here are not but maybe some here might be using lesser known ones which are actually spyware !!!! and its always good to have a link to check on these things..
