I had sent my motherboard back to the maunufacturer about a year ago to have all of the caps replaced because they had all popped and my board became unstable. That cost me $14. I just checked it for the first time since then and they are all popped again. The board is a EPoX 8K3A+. I will never buy from these folks again. I think I'll stick to good ol' ABIT from here on out since I still have my very first one as does the 10 or so other people I built systems for using ABIT motherboards. There........I fell better.

Hey Herm,

Hate to tell ya but Abit is not so safe either. I have a KT-133 RAID board, so far so good but...

If I remember correctly, the caps for most motherboards were manufactured by one company. I think it is the company that built the caps, and not the motherboard manufacturer's fault. Will check up on this.

Oh, and about Abit... Read this.

Both articles were great. I actually already new about Abit having the problem in the past. I think it was largely due to the ABIT KT7R board that I used to want so bad but I held out and started hearing about the caps failing in them. I just checked my ABIT KT7A and there isn't a single bad cap in it and it is about 4 years old now. No problem there at all.

ABIT brags now about the quality of the caps it is using unfortunately, the best board they offer the AN8 Fatality isn't doing too well in bench marks vs other makers.

I still won't trust EPoX being that they knowingly put bad caps on my board the second time and still won't admit they know they are bad caps. Lastly, there is a forum I visit often that is dedicated to EPoX motherboards and even now, people with new boards from them are complaining that their caps are starting to burst. ON THEIR BRAND NEW BOARDS I SAID! I can't see how they can stay in business.

Thanks for the great links!

It's amazing the number of companies that provide subpar products or services in the world. Take for instance Windows. How the hell does MS stay in business with such a lame excuse for an OS. Especially considering most people run bootleg copies and never actually purchase MS products.

A capacitor is a storage device for an electrical charge. Kinda like a coil in an automobile.
