I have the game, but have not had time to install it :? I figure that the startup woes will be mostly over in a couple of weeks. I am also designing a website for my CoH supergroup. It looks okay in Internet Explorer, but like CRAP in Firebird. If you want to see it, here it is.

Best Buy has CoH on sale for $19.99 up here. How much is the monthly fee in US dollars?

Guildwars is $49.99 up here.

I think the next step we should take is to decide who wants to have which profession. Anyone have a preference?

And what about the professions themselves. Are you limited to the spell casting that is described for each one, or can you also learn some skills with the bow, or become a decent swordsman for close combat, in addition to your innate spell casting powers?

And how do you train? I have lots of questions the website doesn't answer. I need a demo to find this stuff out, but I don't think there is one.
:?:

In the beta, and I assume in the game now, no you are not limited. If fact you can get what ever skills you want. BUT a natural mesmer will be more powerful with mesmer powers than a hunter with those powers. You can make quite a few characters, so it is easy to experiment to see what you like.

There are special NPC (non playing characters) that you go to to train up. These are always found in one place and are easily accesable.

No MMORPG that I know of has a demo.

My impressions of the beta test:

I have always liked fast paced games. That is the reason I love UT, especially redeemer arena. This is a MUCH more laid back game, but I know it will get exciting taking on a dragon or monster with a full team.

Thanks Jarg!:D

I missed a sale at the beginning of last week, and could have saved myself 10 bucks on the game. :? :(

Has anyone made the commitment yet? :?:

The reviews are great, thanks again Jarg. The game seems to be a winner, but I was a bit disappointed and surprised to learn that the real emphasis of this game will be player vs player, or guild vs guild. (Hence the name "Guild Wars")

I was looking more for something where we could all just go off on an adventure together. The reviews suggest we would max out in skills relatively early, in order that we would be ready to do the Guild vs Guild fighting I'm not so sure I would want to get into. :(

Well, am I worrying too much?

I'm thinking that if I can find the game on sale for 40 bucks or better someplace up here, that I'll dive in anyways. I want something new. See you there guys? I'll let you know when I've made the plunge; if you're holding back.

Well the $40 gift card I had at GameStop was burning a virtual hole in my pocket so I went out and picked up a copy of Guild Wars last night.

First impressions so far are pretty good. The game looks wonderful to say the least and boots up monster quick. Went from long load ups from Everquest to something that seems to load even quicker than either one of the Diablo games ever did and for the most part even seems to boot quicker than UT99. Pretty impressive.

I've only got to play about an hour's worth last night but starting out wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. When you start the game you have a choice as to whether or not you want a role playing character (which basically has free reign) or a straight up PvP character which doesn't have free reign and is limited to nothing but PvP type stuff. So I went straight to the role playing part.

Quest people and persons of interest usually show up on the map and in the world with an exclamation point above their heads which keeps that part simple and straight forward. The big towns seem to be the meeting places for people to gather up groups to venture out and take on different quest. Once out of these towns its basically you all by yourself and you don't have to worry with other people which is kinda kewl.

I started up a Necro/Warrior to start exploring the world. The controls are very easy to use and there are plenty of hotkey stuff you can use and set up which is great too. So far the only thing I haven't been able to wrap my head around is skill points. You receive these along with ability points as you complete quest and level up. The ability points are easy to use and set but from what I have read the skill points are used to buy skills in the towns?? (Jarg question) Oh well I'm sure I'll find some more information about it searching the web during the slow times here at work today and get it all straight in my noodle.

Hey Jarg, you actually playing this game now by chance?

If anybody else happens to have this game my character's name is Kalus Kidthor so give me a lookup. I'm usually on gaming around 9:30 CST so if I'm not on UT then I'm knee deep in this Guild Wars game.

I'll throw out more details as I get deeper into the game but so far it looks like it might actually be pretty fun (laid back but fun).

Still playing CoH now. I do plan on playing this soon. I am the leader of my super group, and with the great power comes great responsibility.... Sorry. Had to say it. I will look you up when I play, as you play a little late in the evening for me.
As of right now, the level cap is set to 20 in Guild Wars. WAY too low for my taste, but it should be pretty easy to attain.
And of course, the monthly fee is right up my alley :)

You hit the nail on the head with that one Jarg. Finally stumbled across the online manual they have available on the web and was able to figure out some of the questions I was having about the skill points and such.

Yeah the level cap at 20 is pretty low right now but I'm sure they will do what EQ and some of the other MMOG have done and when new content pops up the levels will more than likely go on up. EQ started at 20.....jumped to 40.......then jumped to 60 or 65 if I'm not mistaken. My character is already up to level 5 which took hardly any time at all to get there. Just basically wandered around doing quest and killing a few extra monster here and there and hit 5 in no time flat. I have a feeling once I get alittle deeper into the game the levels will start to slow down a bit.

Just want to say thanks Jargy for pointing out this game. Needed some new crack in my life :D
