While refreshing all servers on the Deathmatch tab, I noticed that the total number of servers has risen to almost pre-UT2K3 levels. I do not know how many 2K3 servers there are, as I am letting a friend borrow the disk, and I can't get the no-CD hack to work, but it seems to me that the faithful are coming home to the original.
After the release of 2K3, the total number of servers reached around 1800 on UT. Now it is back to around 2800. That is interesting, well, at least to me.
The Jargonaut

I had noticed the original UT numbers go down and the new UT numbers go up but hadn't noticed the old UT coming back up again. I can say that I recall 3,100 servers at the last point that I looked. there is a new patch out for the new UT2003. The patch is number 2166. One major thing it did was brighten the player skins so now you can actually see people before they are shooting at you. That is a major fix by my standards. I hope Schwantz finishes his new UT2003 server soon. I also hope he turns down the bots quite a bit compared to the level they were playing at last time. He must remember that we are redeemer masters and not DeathMatch God-likes.

Hermskii

Have to say , that I think that the original is better by far that the new u.t. Everything from the Character classes to the maps, makes for better overall product to me.Some of the "kinky s & m" characters ,and that stupid clown I could of lived without! .Also as far as the maps are concerned, does'nt it seem like they're a little repititive??Granted, the graphics are "Unreal" pun intended, lol!,but some elements of the game were a big dissapointment to me,especially after laying down $50.00
for it!!Still think that older U.T. will cotinue to flourish for a long time to come! at least thats what I'm hoping
Cya later,Trigon

I finally got my hands on UT2003 and I have to say that its not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Seems to play pretty good. Graphics are much better than UT and the boards are taking a bit to get use to. I was able to pick it up for 39 bucks (had a gift card at Best Buy). There are some things about it that I'm still not sold on tho. Maybe those will come with more gameplay.

Is anybody running a UT2003 server by chance? I saw where Herm said that Schwantz's UT2003 server wasn't back up yet (2 post above this post). I've been doing some digging and found a redeemer mod for UT2003. It doesn't sound as good as what we are use to tho. It replaces all the weapon pickups with redeemers (if my memory serves me right). Might be interesting to see what it is like. Does anybody have any favorite UT2003 servers that they frequent?

Got on both UT's last night and regular UT had about 2100 servers while UT2003 had only about 550 or so. Figured the it would be the other way around but it sure is hard to put a good thing down.

2 many UTs.....2 little time

Sure am glad I got a new Hard Drive for X-MAS. My little 8 gig Western Digital just wasn't cutting it. Got one of those Western Digital 80 gig with the 8 MB cache...........love it. And to top that off I also got a PS2 with a handful of games. Now my biggest problem is, "WHAT THE HECK AM I GOING TO PLAY TONIGHT?!?!"

Too many games......too little time

played the new game a few times, and the biggest plus I can say is that the graphics is just impressive (on my GeForce 3). the leaves cast shadows and the grass.. the grass looks real to me. compared to UT, I can't say the new game is better overall. the new game still have many areas that need improvement. in fact, after my first night out playing UT2003 online, I was ready to dump the game. fortunately, things have improved much since that first game, so I can see myself liking the game in the future. the game play is quite different from UT and will take time to get used to.

the all-important redeemer. it does feel different from the UT redeemer, but I'll have to play a real redeemer arena to know if I like it or not. the arena mod that came with the game gives you just one shot, so it wasn't too interesting. the biggest difference that I noticed is that the missile is much harder to guide now and the view from the missile isn't as clear as the UT redeemer. aside from that, the redeemer explosion is just pretty to watch..

UT2003 server? Crusher's got one running for a few months now. stop by crushersplace.tzo.com/ , and the IP address should be listed under 'Game Servers'. our weekly UT2003 frag fest is on Friday nights 9 to 11:30 eastern time. do note that sometimes we have to limit to just Crusher's Place members. besides his server, I've also played on a few Double Domination servers. I can't remember the server names now, but there were about 50 Double Domination servers last week when I last played UT2003.

- clemmentine

____________________________________________________________
...
