Do you have web space? How much? I'll tell you how to do it. It is a pain in the butt though IMHO

How much space do you need?

I might be able to host it on this server. I already do Schwantzes UT2K4 files ...

Lemme know.

hey n6 just an idea but if you host a few redirects cant u just put them all in one file like all the ut 99redeemer in one 2k3 in another 2k4 another ect and let all the ones running the same type server access it instead of having separate ones for each server????? it would save lots of space i think if not it was just one of them dumb ideas

thats a cool idea but would that mean all the servers would have to run the same maps?
on my server i have about 250 odd maps that can be cut down a lot as it was only me and lotus that used to play on it so everytime i downloaded more i zipped them and sent them on aim to him i would like to run fairly small maps on mine so i can use redeemer or sniper guns :roll:
but i would need a bit of advice on compressing them and uploading

Schwantz just sent me a message indicating he will mail me two HD's. That will take care of the space restrictions. Once installed, we should be able to have separate directories for all the servers.

I can create separate logons for the server admins.

So, who would that be?

CG
CG 2K4
Schwantz - classic
Schwantz - 2K4
Jarg
Kidcapri
Missile Madness
Bo's

what did I miss?

There's a CG2K4? Cool! Send me the IP so I can check it out. I hope it's better than that regular CG server...sheeeesh!

I think the plan here is a great one but I expect that I will keep my stuff on my web server for now as I am planning on going a different direction for now. I still have lots of plans for UT related stuff. I just don't have the time or knowhow to complete them yet.

The idea to merge everything to a centralized professional location is years overdue. N6NU, my hat is off to you if you can get this off the ground. I can't see any reason why it shouldn't work and if you're willing to put the time and effort into it, it can't fail. Leave it to Schwantz to step up first AGAIN with the hardware donation. N6NU is taking on a lot too, just in upload work and account administration etc. I will be watching this thread closely to see how this works out.

Hey "One", the space you would need is usually half of the size of the file you need to use. So, lets just take Deck 16 as an example. Let's say it is 4mb big if you looked at it's size right now as it is in your maps folder. There is a tool built in to UT called UCC COMPRESS. You would use it to compress Deck 16. So now it is 2mb in size. You would take this new file called DM-Deck_16.unr.uz and upload it to a web server somewhere. You would then modify your UT.ini file to say that you are using a web server for redirecting files by modifying a couple of lines like:

UseReDirects=True
RedirectWebLink=http://TheOnesWebPage/UT/UZ

That done, you are nearly ready to use redirects. Now the trick is to know exactly which files you need to put on your webserver. Answer: Anything that didn't come with the game originally that you want to run/work on your server. Another example would be a multi-file map. This is a map that comes with sounds and textures too for instance. Say it is Deck 148. That means you need to compress the map file, the sound file and the texture file. Once they are compressed, you have to upload them to your web server and place the original files in the (you guessed it) Map folder, sound folder and texture folder since none of these came with the game. If each of these were originally 2 mb in size each then you compressed them it may be safe to guess that for 6mb.s they compressed down to 3mb. So, so far, you have uploaded 5mb.s for two maps being Deck 16 and Deck 148. It gets worse and harder when you start trying to use skins and voice packs but the idea stays the same. The hardest thing sometimes is to apply a mutator but its very possible too. The worst thing about doing it is making sure your file names are eaxactly the same. They have to be or they don't work and there is nothing to really tell you exactly what is different or wrong. Here's an example using the Deck 16 example:

The map is called DM-Deck16. Once it's compressed, it's called DM-Deck16.unr.uz

With that said you uplaod it to the web server. But say a letter changed like the server copy now is listed as DM-deck16.unr.uz

It would not work because the D is no longer capitalized in the deck part of the name. One little thing like that and the whole thing will usually crash as soon as you launch it or your redirects just won't work if it actually doesn't crash.

More on this later. I want to see some responses before my 2 typing fingers fall off. Later!

YES, the boss stepped up tp the plate AGAIN - Thanks Rob!

I don't think it is too much work for me. I just setup the logins and virtual servers like "kidcapri.redeemerinsanity.com" and send the logon to the admins. That way every UT server can have their own directory ... You want to use it? fine. You don't? fine.

So, Admins. send me an email if you want to get webspace.

redeemeradmin@n6nu.org
