I found a thread that may have helped me understand some of my network settings better and I made the changes to CG tonight. The expectation was that pings would drop about 20 and the view in the game would actually improve and be less shaky. So far based on reports from just over 5 people, this has been a success! I aimed this at DeadManWalking, BrutalKiller and the rest of our 56kers even though Brutal tells me he's on 512 ADSL now. I reduced the amount of info the server was normally sending to less than 25% of the normal data while maintaining the playability. I syncronized the network data to equal or less than a monitor using refresh rates of 60mhz so even if you use higher rates there won't be artifacting or tears ever. I increased player log on attempts to 3 per minute up from 2. Lastly, I have a patch to apply that will better defend CG from attacks though I haven't installed it since I haven't been attacked in months. Let me know if you notice any difference. Soreal mentioned the downloads from CG being slow. I don't know why that would be but I'll look into it with my web server people. Later! (FAH, attach comment here! LOL)
