I just wondererd what firewall people here are using. I can receive the mcfee personal firewall for 90days free through msn. I had to uninstall it because I think it was the cause of my bad ping, i'm not sure. Is it a good thing to leave it on while playing online games? I didn't know if it was really a must to have a firewall or not Thanks By the way I'm loving this dsl my ping was like 70 at herms compared to 250 to 300 before its like learning how to play all over again :D

Now that your're on broadband, yes, you need a firewall. But don't use that one by McAfee. If it's anything like the version by them I had on my old computer, it will slowly eat up resources until your computer slows down to the speed of a 286. Get the free firewall from ZoneAlarm instead. ;)

K*B I use the freeware version of ZoneAlarm. I don't install the full trial version. When you download ZoneAlarm, just look for the option that installs only the freeware version instead.

Darkmatter, what happens when you configure ZoneAlarm? I assume you put green checkmarks in all four columns of the Unreal Tournament line?

I just tried that again and only had 2days left because I had used it in the past and deleted it. Maybe I can change my name and email and it will give me another 30 days if not I might just purchase the full version.....

Well theres another free firewall out there that some people prefer over ZoneAlarm, but I can't recall what it's called.

It's weird that you cannot install only the basic version of ZoneAlarm. That's still free. You may have to do a reg edit to get it to install properly then. There must be a computer help forum someplace where you can get someone to tell you just what you need to do.

But wait and see what happens when your two days are up. Maybe then you'll be allowed to revert to the plain free version?

Don't use software firewalls period IMHO. Get a router with a built in firewall and never worry about it again. It's much easier on your compter this way too. Macaffee anything really sux though.
