i've been having this on going problem with my monitor lately and it's driving me nut's. What is happing is all of the sudden my monitor will go black and then back to normal, but sometimes it stays black and the power button on the monitor goes from green to orange as if it was in standby, which I have no power scheme setup either. So I press the power button again and the monitor comes back on but goes black again and the power button turn's orange again URGH!!!!!! once I reboot everything is ok......It doesn't happen when i'm playing games just surfing online. It's a 17inch crt gateway, I have a geforce4 ti 4200. Does it have to do with the refresh rate?. It's set to adapter default I'm not sure what to set it to anyway optimal maybe I'm clueless. I haven't downloaded anything lately that would cause this either....Anyidea's????...

Check the back of your computer to see if the cord is tightly connected to the card. Sounds to me like you have a bad connection.

I had the same problem with two othere 17" CRT's. The only difference is that I had a snap sound when it did it. Eventually both monitors gave up completely. I think the fact that it doesn't happen while gaming is just a coincidence.

I used some contact cleaner and compressed air on the contacts and just reconnected it via crt/vid card see what happends.... I wasn't sure if it was a connection problem or software issue. Thanks Jarg and Fah.......

mmm i had problems about 2 months ago like the fah hearing a snap/crackle noise at same time screen flashing just a quick blink not blanking out for second or more i took the back off the monitor and gave it a good blow out cleared all the dust it seams to of fixed it the inside of the monitors always seam to get over looked in the spring clean write ups its surprising how much builds up in there maybe worth a look in urs too just remember once inside touch nothing with hands theres pretty high voltages in there (for those that don't know 20,000 volts and higher even hours and sometimes days after being unplugged). Mmmm maybe flat panel monitor is worth investing in lol

Still have the same problem, a flat screen would be nice way to much money though...I probabley should give my monitor a good cleaning.I haven't done that yet it's been 3 years or so. I went to school for electronics and remember the kid next to me getting zapped when we were working on televisions urgh....I wont even touch a tv anymore.......

Yes you can die thats why I ended up leaving school screw that I stuck with working on cars. I felt it to I was a few feet away. He was in a one of those computer chairs with wheel's or whatever you call them and ended up flying backwards 15 feet as if someone pushed him in the chair....KABOOM.............He was ok but there was a mess in my pants damn........

Yes you can die as k*b said, theres a high tension lead that powers/charges the screen it starts at 15-20,000 volts for 14 inch black/white-colour screens and goes up from there you could be looking at about 50,000 for the bigger screen sizes but you usually only get a buzz out of them and 'shock' (pardon the pun there) as there pretty low in amps and the amps kill you maybe if you have bad heart already that wouldnt help or unless ur talking about 100,000's of volts, in the uk ur more likely to die plugging the t.v into the mains with the 240 volts and 13 amp supply we have.

dark

0.1 amps at 110v is a lethal dose.
