I've been checking the origianl SRA server lately and very rarely see anyone logged on. The odd time there is one or two but it appears that the majority of the players are playing elsewhere. I don't mind providing the hardware and connectivity for something that is useful and being enjoyed but if SRA has outlived itself, perhaps it is time to do something else with it. Please take time to answer the poll.

I play on other servers because no one plays on SRA anymore

Hey Boss:

I think the very things that made SRA unique are now limiting the amount the server is used. That's alot of downloads for new players, and if they never see anyone else in there, I imagine they don't feel like waiting for all of the custom stuff to come down the pipe just to play by themselves. I know that Herm's servers became alot more user friendly when he implemented those fast redirected downloads. If you could figure out how to do it, I think you would see way more use of the server (don't know exactly how this is done...do you need a whack of webspace to hold all the files, or is it via FTP from the host computer, or...?). It's entirely up to you, Rob. Would be a shame to see SRA bite the dust...but ya gotta do what ya gotta do...just my 2 cents worth...

Bo

No doubt.

Schwantz I voted to keep it going, because I can't bear to think about the mothership going down over New Mexico (or Texas actually).

But I think maybe you should try an install without all the skins and voices. I bet it would populate real fast. The ulta-quick download system Herm has worked out is awesome. That might be good for new maps. I would love to see some new maps, as I think a lot of players would.

SRA FOREVER!

I have to put in my two cents worth. The downloads are too numerous. For those on broadband, I suppose that it is more of an inconvienience, but for 56k, it is nearly impossible. I remember spending an entire weekend downloading everything on your files site. After I downloaded all of it, I tried to connect to SRA, but had more to download. I did not have all of the maps. I have played on SRA, and enjoyed it (except that those darn bots are SOOO difficult to deal with). I just really do not want to spend too much time downloading. I'd rather be getting my ass kicked. I really want you to keep the server up, just remember those who are stuck in the last millennium with 56k. We want to enjoy your server too. Finally, I'd like to say THANK YOU to all of the server admins here. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. I know it is only a game, but it really helps after a STRESSFUL day at work to come home and share a few frags with those that I consider my cyber friends. You folks are appreciated, at least, by me. Keep up the excellent work.
The Jargonaut

I play at SRA at least once a week. But I must say I had forgetten just how many downloads are required for the privilege of playing on the server. It took a very long time on broadband to get everything I needed for the new computer. I'm sure it was over 45 minutes. I strongly suggest getting rid of all of the skins except the roller girls and xena skins that are presently being used. Get rid of all the unused voicepacks too. The only two that seem to get much use are the Holygrail and Cartman packs. I liked to cuss with the Kingpin pack occaisionally, but I can live without it.
I'd like to see some new maps too. The Fatz clan have all kinds of cool Deck and Church maps that they aren't using. If it is desired for SRA to be different mapwise, I suggest getting some of those.

I have noticed the same thing Boss. I pop in every once in a while but it gets kinda boring playing bots. Where the hell is everyone. I try to get in on saturday night around 9 EST. I voted on keeping it going. even though I'm not around as much as I was years ago (My god have I been playing a game that long. Not only that but on one server that long) but like my fellow long time frag buddy Mah said, I just couldn't bear to think of a world without SRA. It's just part of life now. You gotta make the ultimate decision though. You are after all the guy running the show.
Naughtius Maximus

I say start from scratch, bring in the people, then slowly add the good things that people want if you want to go boutique again.

Let the downloads be new maps instead of skins and voices. That will bring some real spice to life.

Thanks for keeping SRA up for this long, Boss! It has been a hilarious few years. All the good people make it a great experience.

Mah

Strange you should ask that...I was just thinken ...'Where in the hell IS every one'. I login quite often just to play the good ole maps. I do not like playen alone. But, it dose seem that I'm there alone alot. Perhaps a minor change is due. Perhaps a few new maps and mabe shorten the skins list. Hate to mess with a proven design but a new hub cap would be nice. I guess?

SRA is the best UT server that I have had the pleasure to be on. Best play, Best run and with out a doubt the most dependable!!

SRA should receive the Golden Redeemer award !

I for one would be at a loss with out it Boss .

IMHO

Das Hookster

I actually do drop int there every once in a while but only if I see someone in there. I see Deadman and Hook in there pretty often and every once in a while I catch Nameless there too. I have to say that SRA is also my favorite server to play on. I've been meeting with all of you great folks there for a few years now. I always thought the best maps were here and was always careful to never use the same maps to ensure the only way to get that good SRA feeling was at SRA itself. The amount of downloads is easily the #1 reason why SRA has been quiet lately. Even if it were changed to only 1 or 2 downloads, people would be impatient and go somewhere else most of the time. The super fast download process is the answer Boss. I don't have a patent on it and I'm positive it will get the noise back in SRA. I will send you an email with a break down of how to do it and if you want to proceed, I'll send a detailed version. SRA must stay up. More on this fact later. Keep it going!

Hermskii

Hey Schwantzy.

Are You still into It?

If you are NOT, then I see no reason for continuing any further.

If you are, then you will have to make changes to SRA. There is no guarantee but... If you build it right, we will come.

For me personally, I prefer your server because it plays much "smoother" than Curious George's and I also like the maps. The reason I and others play on CG's is that is where the players are. It is after all, the social interactivity that makes this game so great.

Think it over man, we'll still be here.

torplovesra

Went in last night. After re-installing UT, I had to download everything again, but watched 'The Simpson's' while the dnlding was being done, so pretty painless.
This is a valid question, but my vote is to keep going.
Hans

Since the players wish to see SRA continue, I will keep it running for th time being. I've currently removed a majority of the skins and voice packs until Herm or someone helps me with the fast download mod.

I'll continue to monitor the server and hope to see more use over the next few weeks. Thanks again for your interest and support and I hope to have a bit more time to play as well in the coming days.

Admin Schwantz
