I'll fire up UT, and see normal ping readings on the server browser under my favourites tab. But as soon as I log on to play someplace, the little red light of doom comes on immediately, and I see that my ping is over 2000. It's happening on both computers, but nevertheless, could it be something in my game that needs tweaking? Or is it more likely that my local cable isp is over subscribed? <p></p><i></i>

Does it only happen on the CG's? Yes your scores were really good. I've seen the ping go up and down for you on the CG's. Does it happen everywhere? Only when you game? Only one kind of game? Only on certain servers? Firewalls? Router? What is your Operating System? 2000 or XP I bet with a score like yours. Only happens when online gaming. Only play UT online though. It's been happening at all the servers. Playing through a linksys router, which makes no difference because I've disconnected it and it didn't help, and I'm using the latest free version of Zone Alarm. Win98SE on the old computer, XP Home Edition on the new. Going online with both computers at the same server at the same time gives the same sad results on both of them. Why is the game affected, but not my surfing or downloading? <p></p><i></i>

I got so pissed off tonight at my 1800-2100 ping during peak hours that I telephoned my cable providers tech support. They admitted that my area is over subscribed, and assured me that they are replacing/upgrading routers and amplifiers and putting in fibre optics and lots of other good stuff as fast as they can. They've been playing catch up for at least three weeks. So hopefully things will improve soon.<br><br>But that doesn't do me any good for the month I've lost. So I asked for a discount.
