what do you have now? the GeForce FX 5200 Ultra is not as good as the GeForce 4 Ti 4200 in UT2003 with anti-aliasing and ansiotropic filtering turned off. the FX 5200 Ultra is better than the Ti 4200 with AA and AF on, but the frame rates are quite a bit lower than if AA and AF were off.

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1933

and the non-Ultra FX 5200 is not as good as the FX 5200 Ultra.

clemmentine what i put is what it says on the dell site and as for upgrading etc i am maxed out on what i am getting money wise and a little over what i should really be spending it has to be better then what i have now no matter how bad it is i hope anyway.
system i have now is
p2 350 384 ram
elsa gladiac nvid gforce2mx400 @64 ram ( i wouldnt advise anybody to buy elsa from my experience have to use nvidia own drivers as elsa said they didnt know what card i was talking about when i went to there site to get them)

and what i was thinking of doing was upgrading on this in the near future becouse having dell do it costs too much to upgrade to the next card they sell for the system i wanted would be 150 add 4 yrs of interest on that for my repayments, to buy the card myself costs 120 and no interest on repayments and for the 120 it was a better card cant remember which cards they were right now but the savings of buying seperate was worth it so that's the way i hope to go
thanks for the advice tho its always welcome

dark

Ps any advice about dell from anybody that's used them i still have time to cancel dont want to get stuck with them for four yrs if there cr*p :?: :?: :?:

Uhhh... The system that I had was a Dell. It was really good, until the warrenty ran out. Then BOOM. It died. I personally will never get another Dell, but others have had no problems at all out of theirs.
The customer service is good, IF you don't mind waiting on the phone for HOURS. Personally, I think you should shop around. Are there any computer vendors in your area? Go to them with your wish list and see what they can offer. I think you will get better service for close to the same money, and a better system that can be upgraded ALOT more than a Dell.

Just my humble opinion.

I'm having no problems with my one year old Dell 8200.

The only thing I wonder about is why Dell stopped offering the kind of RAM I have in this thing, (PC 800 or whatever it's called) and dropped down to the DDR Sdram 400 Mhz stuff?

My first Dell (P2 300) is now 6 years old, and still going strong. :|

I'm wondering if I should put a nice 64 mb AGP vid card in it? Frankly I'm surprised at the performance you seem to be getting on your P2 350, Darkmatter. My 3dfx Voodoo 3 3000 with its puny 16Mb of RAM strains terribly on some of the maps. No way I could telefrag the way you do!

That is a bummer Nameless about the Voodoo 3 3000 having a hard time. Voodoo totally rules when it comes to UT. You should see it run on a faster system Nameless. My Voodoo 3 3000 AGP on a 1000mhz machine totally rocked. Never even the slightest studder. You can onlt imagine how awesome my Voodoo5 5500 AGP is. Unfortunately, the 3000 died a couple months back and the 5500 is being wasted in my mother puter right now. I'm sticking with my GeForce4 ti4200 128mb AGP for now. It seems to kick but very well.

About the dell in my humble opinion;

I like Dell a lot but if you plan to upgrade it, they can seem like Compaqs. Dell offers about the best price but it is hard to get BIOS updates and some of the other things you'll eventually want to do. I've have worked with Dell for many years and think they have a solid product. I like the customer service too but when you have an annual contract with Dell to buy 5,000 new machines every year, they tend to kiss your but a little more. Dell = GOOD, but support can be tuff and upgrades can be hard to get if possible at all.

That is far better than the Dell. The monitor is the only question mark to me. Is it LCD or CRT? LCD flatscreens don't have as good of resolution as CRTs. Not even close actually and I've heard of a lagg/delay associated to LCD flatscreens in gaming. Other than that, please order me one of those too!

The short answer is
hermski think its LCD comes as standard cant get less then that or 22" crt but that's £114 $201.02 on top cant offord and dont want too big

jarg the price is £880.08 $1,551.85 but then i got interest on that and there sending details as to how much that will be.
but there is an amd that i might get also its getting harder to choose i think the dell is out of the running tho lol

if anybody is interested this is it http://www.meshcomputers.com/updated/elite_2.htm

sorry, Darkmatter, work has been keeping me busy.

I'm a bit disappointed that Dell only offers the GeForce FX 5200 and the Radeon 9800 and nothing in between. it's the ones in between that get you the best value for your money. yes, you are right that both the FX 5200 and the Radeon 9200 are better than your current GF 2 MX 400. I'm not familiar with the ASUS motherboard you have there. if you plan on upgrading the video card in the future, you might want to check to make sure that it has an AGP slot.

Nameless, if it's PC800, it's RDRAM. though it's different from DDR SDRAM, PC800 RDRAM is about the same as 400 MHz DDR SDRAM in performance (look on AnandTech under the Chipsets section, there's an article comparing the Intel 845, 850, 865, and the 875). one possible reason why Dell dropped RDRAM is because of the cost. it's quite a bit more expensive than the equivalent DDR SDRAM. another reason is that Intel has shifted away from RDRAM to DDR SDRAM. being that Dell is a pro-Intel shop, I'd say dropping RDRAM is a logical choice.
