I'll try to keep this short. I will move into my new house in about three weeks. All of the work on it (new textured walls, repaired cracks, new flooring, painting everything) should be done then. I will go completely off line for about a week I imagine. Yes that means me and CG will be gone. Once I get back on line, everything should return to normal. Hopefully that will be before New Years if I can speed up some of the work to be done.

CG will be getting a face lift in April. I have been working hard the last several weeks on creating a new CG that will have a whole new set of maps that I used in the past plus new ones that Nameless liked alot and many that I found and greatly enjoyed. Many of these will be the dreaded multifile maps I have always avoided. I will be making a single, giant Map-Pack that will have everything in it. Before you download it, I will suggest that you delete any others that you have downloaded from me in the past to save space (Clem?). I'm almost done testing the file content to ensure there won't be any conflicts with files that are already on your machines. I'm trying to reduce the maps from over 240+ to 100 tops.

I have also been working on and off on a tutorial for several months that will explain in great detail some ways to install and tweak your UT game for the best performance. It will even explain what is needed to run your own server using the process I have used for CG. It has video tweaks as well for using OpenGL and I hope to even offer up the special additional textures from the 2nd CD with instructions so eveyone will be able to play using the extra defined, extra large textures that many of us are already enjoying.

I tell you more as I think of it. Peace all.

Stuck in the Seattle Airport right now, because we missed our flight back to Oakland (because wife is never on time).

Great news Herm. You should apply for a job at Epic Games. You could do this for a living!

Mah

PS: Heh, we're moving in around Dec 19th. We were trying to DE-texture our walls, lol! Finished painting, and bam! we find a leak in the basement. Messed up downspout that had to be diverted away from the foundation. However, my first priority once we actually move in is BROADBAND!

it seems you often speak of me when you're talking about the coming changes on CG. you're right that I raised the concern about space, but hard drive space is cheap these days, so don't worry about it. it's not that I have no more space on my hard drives, but that the partition (drive F) for UT has about 100 MB left (out of 2 GB). I have two physical hard drives, the primary being 8 GB and the secondary being 40 GB. on those two drives, I have 2 active OSes and well over 10 partitions. it so happens that I have an 8 GB partition free, so my plan is to copy all my UT files over to the new partition, then remap that partition to be drive F. that way, I shouldn't have to reinstall UT and all the other add ons.

yeah, take the job at Epic and move to Raleigh. then you'd be practically right down the street from me. could my dream of sub-50 ping on 56k come true? ha ha ha, I think not.

Thanks Clem and yes I did mention you because I knew of the space restrictions you had with that one partition. I'd hate to lose any player ever especially one like you. I'm trying to make it as enjoyable for everyone and as painless as possible for the folks with less space, slower connections and older PC's. My answer to less space isn't a good one but it will be a permanant playable solution whether on line or not. For the slower connections, I've compressed and used the hyper redirect downloads and have made Map packs so they can be downloaded over night while one sleeps. For the older systems, I'll be adding the tweaks and instructions for OpenGL in the hopes that will resolve some slowness issues. I try hard to make sure everyone here gets the best shake possible from my server. The happier you guys are the more people play! Peace all and thanks Clem for finding a way on your end to work around issues that would arise from changes on my end. Peace!

LOL Nameless. Not at all. This is my hobby. I will be having kids soon now that we'll be in a house. I have to get all of this done now before I don't have time to do it later. I hear how busy everyone else is hear. This is almost the only thing I do right now so now is the best time to do it. I love it. The manual is more for me to remember how to do stuff than for others to do it but cool if it serves two purposes! It's all good here folks. I can't tell how good it makes me feel to know it's not going to waste. I mean what else would I do? I think all the other games suck. Peace.

yeah, Herm, this whole deal is cool. I was just wondering if you could maybe stop by our place sometime at http://www.clanrow.net and share some info about how your server is able to run those downloads so fast... It is THE fastest DLing server I have ever seen, and my ping there is not that exceptional for broadband. You could tell me, but it would most likely be over my head. I am just a humble representative and resident black sheep, you would be doing our young clan a great service to hook up with either {ROW}Bad_Attitude or {ROW}Mase, our Admins. We have been having issues I guess with our redirect server and slow downloads, even with broadband...

sorry I don't always have time to show up here, life is hectic this end, but I love the CG server, it is one of the main 4 I play on...

I'd be glad to stop by and give you my opinion about stuff like that. That is provided the other three servers you play on are NWRO, Bigi's and Missile Madness. I'm sure they are so I'll be right over. I'm waiting for the registration to approve me as we speak. Look forward to seeing you there. I can say already that you sure have a nice website over there. Very busy too.

well, to be honest, I also play on the {ROW} server, Zark mercenaries lZMl, and {NYA} Nancy Pro Sniper server 2... LOL... But I have played the Nuclear Winter serve before, I kind have a server for each style of game I like, {NYA} for camping, {ROW} and lZMl for running and gunning, and of course the CG server when I just GOT TO blow the heck out of people!!

Hey NataSatan

Bring all yer RoW buddies over for some fun -- when they get tired of precision and just get a craving for pure, unadulterated radiation!

Let's rock!

you bet, mah, I work on that all the time... we love redeemers, and I have gotten a lot of practice on the cg server that has carried over to my clan's server... I love picturing their faces when they see a redeemer come through the door of Arcane Temple right in their faces... LMAO

we have some very cool peeps in our clan, not the least of which includes my sistah, {ROW}'chelle... She should be signing up on y'all's forum anytime now....

always glad to tie in new parts of the UT community, it's how I make up for not being a computer whiz... 8)
