Hence the main reason that Macs are inherently more stable than Windows computers. Windows has to be compatible with a lot more products, while Apple just has to be compatible with the products that it approves, ergo much fewer products.
World domination does have a price.

Ok I just back from Virginia this weekend and this thread of course has peaked my interest.

Jarg ya got it backwards buddy. The progs & hardware have to be compatible with Windows not the other way around. And since when is anything ever compatible with windows. Or maybe that is how windows works. They ask their customers what they can do to make their OS compatible with their products. This would explain windows' shortcomings.

Clem the reason why Apple dumped the Clone Idea is because they like to have complete control when it comes to hardware and softweare working together properly. These folks were slapping Mac's OS on any piece of crap they could put together. Hence many lame ass computers that kept Mac's OS from running efficiently. In Essence Apple felt it would hurt the company image.

Scify If you ever buy a computer again then I think you should buy a Mac. It is by far the most user friendly Computer in the world.

Nameless it's Unix not Linux buddy. But linux is better then wiondows to from what I've heard.

Nameless, Mah. Torp hit it on the head so I don't need to reiterate.

Deadsun, Mah, Hermskii there is a UT patch for OSX. I have been running it for a couple years now without a hitch. It wasn't an official patch from Aspyr but it is a patch nonetheless. I think Herskii's problems was the fact that he didn't have the game of the year edition.

Hermskii why did you lay into those guys. You have it on your PC. Isn't a PC the supreme gaming platform.

OK think that covers it.

That was good Max. True that I don't have the game of the year addition which would be sweet since it has the 436 patch built in but I can say that the OSX patch for UT sux really bad and that you haven't ever tried to install even the game of the year version on to a machine that can ONLY boot into OSX. Yes i have my PC to play on but remember, I was in the MacCloset and I'm coming out now. I just want a fair shot with a new Mac to play UT and have it play even halfway as good as it does on a PC. Once UTPG gets their patch out. I will attempt to reinstall UT on a Mac again. Until then, the OSX patch isn't even close to being good enough to use with the Mac situation I have. Yes, I can launch OS9 and install the game but it runs like crap. I'm patient. I'll wait. I'm excited too because I can't wait to beat some of the PC folks here while on my Mac! Blah!

Lol. You sound like a hard core Mac guy now. I still think you should be able to install that bad boy. I was able to but it was on a machine that had an earlier version of X so perhaps that is where the problem lies. Hope they get that patch for ya.

yes. that's the advantage of not having Mac clones (having hardware and software working together properly). and that gives people the impression that the company makes quality products (which Apple does very well). that's already a good enough reason, I think, for Apple to do what they did. one reason for having Mac clones (if done properly) is that it potentially could get Macs to become more popular than PCs. it looks to be a choice between guaranteed continuation of the Mac or a potentially much greater popularity. like I said before, the latter path was not taken so we don't know if that could have resulted in something better than where we are today.
