Well folks........I am happy to say that I have found a replacement for the Kidcapri's Redeemer Remix server box. Amazing what people will throw away these days. Get aload of this.

The old server box was a 500 Mhz celeron with 128 meg of ram, 32X cd-rom and a 8 & 4 gig hard drives.

The new server box is a PIII 650 with 128 meg of ram, DVD, CD-RW, 20 & 8 gig hard drives.

So far from just the installation and updating the windows stuff I see a huge difference between what I was using before and what I have now.

The joy of all of this is that it was FREE. The service department were I work at had a couple of what they call "junk machines" used for spare parts and such. I dug thru and found a complete system and inquired about if I could take the motherboard since thats all I was really after in the first place. To my shock they told me to take the whole damn thing and gut it.......then bring the case back to them after it was all said and done. Wasn't gonna look a gift horse in the mouth and not having to spend a dime on this makes the deal soo much sweeter.

Should have everything back to a running order tonight some time (Friday). I'll post back on here when I definately have it running.

|<idcapri

Sorry there Herm. I just got a real lucky break for once (and lord I needed it). Just wanted to drop a line and say I have a real cut and dry server running. Deemer, Mapvote and all the stocker maps are all that is on it right now.

Still called Kidcapri's Redeemer Remix

IP has changed to 24.170.19.81

The fast downloads are not set back up but the only thing it might send ya would be a mapvote file or the redeemer thing but that should not happen. I will get everything on it panned out in the next couple of days. Since its up......for now I am gonna go put my happy ass on my motorcycle and run the roads for a bit on this cool calm night.

Easyriding |<idcpari

Word to the wise.....If you don't have a software or hardware firewall and are directly connected to the internet......GET ONE.

Learned this lovely little tidbit of information last night the hard way. I was bout to walk out the door last night and heard a racket coming from my little computer area I have set up in my living room. Knowing UT even with a full house only really hits the hard drive bigtime between maps I noticed the hard drive light going absolutely APE SH#T. Popped up task manager to see if it would shed some light on the problem and my CPU was maxed out at 100% for some odd reason. Usually when UT is idle the CPU only sits around 3-5% if that and even with alot of ppl on never seems to get over 50%. I promtly turned everything off and rebooted. A quick download of ZoneAlarm and install gave me some insight to my problem.....I was being hammered from the outside world like it was going out of style. Within 30 seconds of installing and booting it up for the first time I watched it block 15 different IPs and after a minute had run up to 30. After see all of that I just went on and turned the machine off until I could figure out what my options were when it came to dealing with it.

I was running 2000 on the server machine and thinking that maybe XP would help out since it has a built in firewall I decided to give it a shot. Everything installed fine but trying to tell the XP firewall to let stuff thru turned out to be more of a headache than expected. If anybody knows anything about how to poke holes thru the XP firewall please tell me. Looks like I'll have to be going out and seeing about purchasing a router/gateway/whatever ya want to call it and see about setting it up. So Herm or any of the other guys out there are running a server behind a router/firewall point me in the right direction so I can poke all the nessasary holes needed for a game server to work.

Anyways.....thought I would give a heads up on the server status and hopefully the village idiot will figure this out soon enuff.

|<idcapri

Let us know when you get the router. Don't people suck sometimes. Be sure to install the 440 patch for servers only when you do your build. It stops people from using your connection as a platform to launch Denial of Service attacks. 440 is for servers only! Use 436 if it's a player install. Let us know Kid. I was wondering where your server was. i was showing 9999.

Hermskii

Yup......sometime ppl just straight up suck a$$ Herm. Hearing all the hacker junk on your UT server was upsetting enuff but after getting nailed by what happened last night.......never know what can happen with this crazy thing we call the internet. Was gonna see into the router today but had to do the Mother's Day thing since she has been a super support for me with the divorce and all......aren't moms great!

Sorry nameless..........just realized you ask what I was riding.

www.bikepics.com/pictures/036708/

It's only a GS500 but I figured that anything larger than that and I would kill myself in no time. I got it a couple of years ago brand new for about 4000 bucks. Wish I had more time to ride.....but considering I am still getting use to this new found freedom...maybe I'll get my chance.

Sorry for the rollercoaster ride on this server. It's fustrating but that's half the fun of trying to get stuff running right.

|<idcapri

Hey Kid

Nice bike!

Hackers are everywhere. And not all of them are interested in good old-fashioned theft. Some of them want to just create havoc. You can at least feel good about the fact that they didn't reformat your drives!

<SRA>/v/ahatma

Whoa hey Kid, whattya mean "only" a GS500? When you told me what it was, an image of an '80 GS Suzuki sprang to mind, one with the old style tube type frames and all. I hadn't realized that they now had the modern aluminum box frames. Yet you still have a nice parallel twin powerplant, a time proven design which is very reliable, and easy to work on.

My best advice to newer riders is to take the local safe riding course if you haven't already, and to always ride with your high beam on during the day, so that those bike blind cagers out there will be more likely to see you.

That is a nice bike. I have been doing the crotch rocket thing for about 16 years now. The last one I had was a mint condition 87' model Honda VFR700. I had several of the VF700F's before it. Love the Honda's. For you non-bike-knowing folks those are all Honda Interceptors. They were always red white and blue up to 1986. My top speed attained was 152 on my last Interceptor about 4 years ago. The only thing I've ridden since then is a 97 Honda CBR 900RR. Ha dbikes my whole life. and I totally agree.....the local safety course is more than worth it. The best safety training I ever got was from the military. It was mandatory to be able to ride a bike at all or was that just on the base? I can't remeber. This 35 year old brain is starting to suffer from the premilitary days. hehehuh? hmmm? Anyway, do it. Sign up and take a course on safety with riding motorcycles. I replied to your email Kid.
