Well folks, after the tourney tonight, I will attempt to install my new hard drive into my system. Every time I go into Best Buy or Circuit City, I would pick up one of the Western Digital HDs with the 8 meg cache. I would carry it around with me whilst shopping around and looking at all of the cool toys at these stores. But I would always put it back on the shelves thinking I really did not want to go through all of the downloading and reinstalling and tweaking etc. I would then curl up in a fetal position and cry like a baby in the middle of the store due to the conflict. It can be hard for me to find help in these stores, but that's okay.... Anywho I finally broke down and purchased a 120 gig HD today and I am anxious to start installing. So if you e-mail me, don't expect a fast reply. Who knows how long it will take for me to get my machine back up. Plus, my friend is borrowing UT2K3, so it may be a while before I can play again. I should get UT back up and running in no time, but alas, I will have to download all of those maps and files again. 56K sucks.
<SRA> The Jargonaut

Jarg, you don't have to do all the reinstalling if you don't want to. Ghost your old drive -- make an image of it -- and then re-expand that image on your new drive! Bam -- instant migration of everything!
<SRA>/v/ahatma

Hey Jarg
I know I have simply drag and dropped my whole UT folder over to another hard drive and back without having to reinstall.I've done it on both of my 2 networked PCs through the lan with no problem as well.

For UT2k3 You just have to export your Registry settings for UT2k3 to your old drive. Then just drag it over to your new hard drive and double click it once. (after you got Wimblows all installed, of course)
Then u wont need the Serial # or the CDs.
At ATA speeds it should take you about 10 minutes
(unless the registry shit throws you)

Then just make your own aliases and your there.

|).|.

Edited by: Death Inc at: 4/12/03 11:43:01 pm

Too late. Format is complete. BUT I still have all of those files on the old HD. Now I have two minor problems. My bios seems to still be looking for another HD, even though I have turned off the second HD there. Got to find the jumper to reset it. Second, I have to find the jumper settings for the other HDs to add them to the system to get the information off of them. JUMPERS SUCK!!

On a good note, this new HD is all that I expected and more! It is very fast.
Thanks for the help everyone! I hope to be online getting fragged soon. Can someone tell me what folder those Windows Updates are downloaded too? I have A LOT of updates to download.

Thanks
<SRA> The Jargonaut

Lol pimp. Yeah the program is not very big. There are many sites that have the program available for testing before you buy.

But seeing as it's already done, I wish you speed in returning back to the arena!

In the future, now that you have a spare HD, Ghost is great for making backup images. I would load the OS and all your essential programs on first, then image that. That way, if anything starts acting up, you can throw the image back on and start from your basic install instead of from absolute zero. I typically burn 3 images: the first (OS + basic programs); the second, with OS tweaks and all sorts of other fun programs installed; and the third, the fullest possible deal that is working without any hitches.

Peace out
M
<SRA>/v/ahatma

Well, after getting all of the glitches figured out, I am proud to say that the Jargonaut is back in action. I kept the old HD with all of the games installed on it in the rig, and they seem to work just fine. I did re-install UT, and then replaced the nessesary folders with my old folders which worked good as well. The ghosting idea is a good one, and I should be doing it. I will put that on the list as the next thing to purchase. BTW, I was doing an inventory of the spare parts I have around here and it boggles my mind. Check this out.
1 P-4 1.5
1 56k modem
1 Geforce 4 ti 4400
1 Voodoo3 3500
1 Maxtor 40 gig HD
cables and ribbons galore

For a little investment, I could just make myself another computer. A case, power supply, mobo, and monitor is all I need. Sounds like a plan.

BTW, have you folks seen the next jump for Intel? 800 mhz FSB. Good grief. I want one!!!!

<SRA> The Jargonaut

Thanks Man. I know you had mentioned building a new system but I figured I'd throw that out there just in case.
Naughtius Maximus (A.K.A.Mac-Fondler)
