For those of you who have some funny screencaps of last night, before sending them to Torp & Jarg, please convert them from BITMAP to JPEG.

If you have Photoshop, the process I usually follow -- and I don't know what is best for webpics (Torp help) -- I shrink the image down to 4"x3" but I up the res to 300 pixels per, instead of the default 72. Then I save the image as a JPEG at level 6 or 7 -- this reduces the file size down to around 100K (compare the 2.5MB bitmap).

I've got some pretty damn funny ones.

Peace,

<SRA>/v/ahatma

For those of you who want to reduce the file size of those screencaps. Open your SC in Photoshop and go to file/save for web. There is a rolled down menu for the type of file you wish to create. Click on Jpeg. To the right of that there is a place where you can change the quality of the image. It runs on a scale from 1 to 100. You can decrease the quality to about 30 without losing a great deal of quality. This decreases the size from about 2.25 meg to about 38k. Hope this helps.

I know you can convert the files into JPEG with Microsoft Paint, but I can't recall if you can resize them with that small program.

(Not very many of us can afford to buy Photoshop. I'm saving up to buy Photoshop Elements 2.0 and a book that someone wrote that shows ways to stretch this derivative of Photoshop beyond all expectations. )

Hehe, but it's such a large program, with a steep learning curve. I downloaded a trial version of Elements, but I havn't installed it yet. How do these "trial versions" work anyway? Are they time limited, or bare bones versions?

YOu can use ACD-See to convert your btmaps to jpegs too. Photoshop can make the pic look better -- I always adjust the color, brightness, and contrast levels, as well as add a caption.

I'm sure that you can find a "warez" copy floating around if you'd like to test the software before buying it.

<SRA>/v/ahatma

If I'm not mistaken the only limitation is that you can't save any of the work you do in said program. It may be different for different programs.

Got a nifty little program that will do the trick. It's called LView Pro. It's fairly small, requires no installation, and I can email it to anyone who wants it.
