Since we have so many computer guru's in here, I'm wondering which one you all prefer. The trial version of Norton 2002 I've got on my new Dell runs out in January, so I've got to start thinking of buying one or the other. McAfee's a bit cheaper, and from what I've read at one place, the new version 7.0 doesn't slow your computer down the way v.5 and v.6 did. I have no use for the integrated firewall that comes with McAfee as I use Zone Alarm, (and I didn't like their resource hog of a firewall that came with my copy of McAfee v.5.0. anyways.)
Since I need to buy one or the other anyhow, it's worth upgrading Norton to 2003 if I go with their product. Right now I'm leaning towards Norton, but would like to hear the opinions of the membership before I buy.

Norton Rules. Set it up once. Your done. I would however, disable the one button checkup that it automatically put into your scheduled task. It is bad.

Hermskii

But I have been trying out the program, with my free trial version. You're kidding about the warez idea, right? It's my understanding that besides having to wade through tons of porn ads; you risk serious damage to your system from trojans, etc. at warez sites.

There's a nice deal on Norton 2003 right now at Staples anyway. $58.99 = $39 US, and I may qualify for another $20 off the price in a rebate offer. Cheaper than shipping up a copy from the US, and I'd rather not d/l it.

I have some questions: If I put the "non professional" version of Norton on both of my computers, am I breaking the EULA? ie. Is it one copy = one computer? I'm behind a router, but could they take notice if I updated both computers at once?

Edited by: a nameless entity at: 12/18/02 7:22:08 pm

My legal copy of Norton 2202 System works which includes Norton AntiVirus is on at least 6 different machines right now. We all update regularly since they all auto update. The software police haven't been by here yet. So far, I think Microsoft and Roxio are the only companies that actually try at all to catch people using copied software. I'd go ahead and just buy the new Norton and install it. Done!

Hermskii

I bought Norton 2003 today at Staples. It was $54.99 not $58.99, so that's about $34 US. Only 5 bucks more than the online price of $29 US. And no shipping charges tacked on.

I'm not going to install it until my trial period is over though. Might as well start my 1 year of free updates in the new year.

I dont know where you guys go for the warez, but if you have patience and know how to use UseNet, I would highly recommend checking out some of the newsgroups on your local news server. A good program for this is Xnews.
here are some of my favorites:
alt.binaries.images -> CD Images
alt.binaries.games -> PC Games

For Schwantz and Mah, I also Highly recommend the following groups:
alt.binaries.multimedia.erotica
alt.binaries.multimedia.erotica.amateur
alt.binaries.multimedia.erotica.black
alt.binaries.multimedia.erotica.asian
alt.binaries.erotica.vcd

"warez my porno" DeaD_SuN

btw...those people that distribute warez are not hackers! I believe that they are referred to as "W4r3z d00dz".

Edited by: DeaD SuN at: 12/23/02 4:24:56 pm
