Post subject: Gone but hopefully not forgotten

Well guys and gals, I hate having to say this but I won't be around CG or SRA for a month if not longer. With Christmas rolling up pretty quick and the bill pile on my kitchen table getting larger by the day, my internet access will be gone.

My roomate has actually been the sorce of my internet access lately and he has been struggling trying to keep a steady job. So he was not able to afford the cable modem bill this month and I would have been glad to foot the bill but with all the other bills I have to pay plus that fact of having to buy Christmas presents.......internet just didn't make the priority list.

So my only internet access is at work and if I could find a way to play UT there, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Hopefully by mid January everything will be back to normal for me.

I will miss y'all

The internetless Kidcapri

Hurry back, Kid. I know what ya mean about balancing bills with internet, but if I had to go without the internet for a month or so, I'd go nuts. Good luck!
The Jargonaut

Kid

WOn't they extend the service a while before killing it? I thought it was like the phone or electricity where you have a little grace period.

If not, we will miss you, but like Clem said you could try 56k. It would be like running the mile with those ankle weights on.

M

Post subject: Dial up is an option

I did some talking with my little brother and was told that I could use his dial up account for awhile if I needed to. Only problem with that is that he also has another friend that uses it on a regular basis and the time frame I would be getting on the internet......there would be 3 of us logged on the same account. Can you get in trouble for that?

LOL your right about the ankle weights on a 5 or 6 K connection there Mah. I've been spoiled with high speed access at work and at home. So it will definately be a giant leap backwards..........but a guy has to get his redeemer fix some how.

I did some talking with the roommate last night also and he has a plan in the works to get the cable modem back sooner than expected (if Time Warner doesn't trample the idea). Time Warner here has a deal that for the first 3 or 6 months (can't remember which) you can get high speed internet for $29.99 a month (the regular price is $45 I believe). He sits in class with a guy that works tech support for them and was told that he could turn in the cable modem for a couple of days and disconnect the service. After a couple of days the guy told him that he "should" be able to get another account and also be able to receive the $29.99 deal. The guy said that him and a couple of his friends have done it with no problems. So if all goes well I "might" have everything back to normal this weekend if not the beginning of next week.

God I hope that works.........If so I'll let y'all know. Anything beats paying full price for internet service.

Thanks for the moral support guys........need all I can get right about now. I hate getting bad news and that plus some other stuff that was going on yesterday really had me bummed out.

Thanks again.

The half internetless Kidcapri

Kid

Just make sure that the new cheap deal includes another free modem. If they give you $29/mo but charge you $99 for the modem ... well, no gain there.

Can't you force your roommate to put the bill on his creditcard for a couple months?

Post subject: Keeping the fingers crossed

Well the credit card thing would have been the logical thing to do.....but there is one catch to that........neither one of us own a credit card (yea I know this is unbelievable but true). Y'all would fall out if you saw how many credit card offers I get in a weeks time in the mailbox. I have already got 4 this week alone (not including the 3 I picked up from my mother's house last night).

The deal includes the modem so there won't be a charge for it. The modems from Time Warner are included in the monthly fee (you basically rent the modem from them).

There is hope tho..........the roommate has talked with his parents and might be able to get some money from them (keeping fingers crossed) to cover this months bill. This is one of those 50/50 things tho........they have promised him money before and backed out in the last second so it is pretty much anybody's guess.

Wish me luck and hope to see y'all on the Deemer servers soon.

The half internetless Kidcapri

multiple logins to the same dial-up account at the same time? it may be possible. my MindSpring (oops, I mean EarthLink) account allows multiple logins, but will charge you extra if the times overlap. this policy may depend on the service provider.

redeemer arena on a good 56k connection is very playable. regular UT is very playable on my dial-up connection.

free dial-up service may be an option, but all I've heard is that the connection is just plain lousy for UT.

- clemmentine

____________________________________________________________
...
