Here is the problem:
I was playing on CG1 when all of the sudden, my video froze. Not only that, but the whole computer froze as well. I had to hard boot (the first time I have ever done that under XP). When I restarted, The whole frickin system was out of order. Odd patches on the screen, Windows was not able to boot. I re-booted, but nothing. Booted to safe mode, and Windows reported the error was in the video drivers. I am using Detonator 40.72 WHQL, and have been for a week. I didn't think the drivers were the issue, but I rolled back the drivers to the 29 series. Rebooted, and had the same problem. I then decided to take out the vid card (GeForce 4 4400, not overclocked) and re-seat it. I notices that the dust inside the card's fan was a little bit much, so I blew out as much as possible. I then re-seated the fan, and fired it up viola, it worked. I am back on the 40 series drivers now and so far so good. Could this have been an overheating problem with the GPU, or another problem? Is my card gonna last a little while longer, or will I have to buy a new card soon? Basically, I want to know if there is another possible problem that could be brewing. Another thing, I used Norton Win Doctor to check out Windows. There was a problem with the Active X, but it was repaired.
Any thoughts? I would hate to be without this thing for even a few days. To scrounge up $300 for a new card will take a while.

The Jargonaut

Edited by: Jargonaut at: 11/23/02 10:41:47 pm
