Well guess what. As I am sure you all have heard, the south-east has experienced a major winter storm. Here in my part of North Carolina, we had around 6-7 inches of snow, and an inch of ice. That would not be so bad, except that a tree has fallen on my house. It took out a sky light, punched a BIG whole in the ceiling, and a large branch came in through the wall of the master bedroom. To top things off, The house that I live in has a flat roof. That means that all of the snow and ice on the roof is coming in through the hole in the ceiling. Needless to say, I will be a little busy for the next few days. I have purchased a chain saw, which I have no idea how to operate, and plenty of tarps. I hope to see you folks online in a few days, but for now, it's worktime for Jargy. Luckily, I do have electricity, which around 1 million of my fellow North Carolinians do not have. Anyways, I'm not fishin for sympathy, I just needed to get this off my chest. Wish me luck with that chain saw, I hope I have all of my arms and legs intact after I am done destroying that $#*%&! tree.

Later all.

The Jargonaut

Sorry buddy. Hope you get stuff fixed up soon enough. This is just another reason to hate winter. I can't stand the cold and tonight in houston, we're going down to 32 or so. I need to move back to Equador or Peru. No snow there except on the mountain peaks. In Lima, Peru where I lived as a kid, it doesn't rain......ever. A creepy fog roles in every night and burns off in the morning. I think when I was there it hadn't rained in YEARS! Yeah, I'd move there but they don't have high speed there I bet or at least a Best Buy store. Good luck with your troubles Jarg. I'm sure you'll be fine. Send pictures up for us.

Hermskii

Jar:

Sorry to hear about the nasty bout of winter. Glad to hear that no one was injured when the tree tried to turn your bedroom into a "three-some". Be careful with the chainsaw. Make sure there is no metal or obstruction on the tree or that chain will come whipping off the saw and cause more damage. Hope the insurance will cover most of it and maybe a new P4 3.06 processor.

Our winter has been so mild, the local ski hills have no snow and even Whistler/Blackcomb has to make their own..

Move to the Canadian Wet Coast where we don't get snow but pay 50% in taxes.

No-Need-To-Thaw Schwantz

sorry to hear about the bad news; hope you get that patched up soon.

well, I was one of those million NC households with no power (for more than two days, no less). and of couse no power means no UT for me.. but when there's no electricity, many other things become much more important than some splatter on the screen. here in Chapel Hill (about 25 miles west of Raleigh), this ice storm brought down countless tree limbs (and many power lines along with them). the word was that over 90% was without power in Durham (the next town to the East) and Chapel Hill. the good thing is that things are getting better now.

with the hurricanes and ice storms around here, they really should put the power lines underground..

- clemmentine

____________________________________________________________
... Glad to hear that you have power back, Clem. I agree that the lines should be underground. We only lost power for around 4 hours here, so that was not too bad. It looks like the next storm is going to be rain only, so that is great.

The Jargonaut

Dang Clem I didn't know you were in NC too.

I heard on NPR yesterday some lady saying she still doesn't have electricity. In the evenings, she says she is fine, because she does her usual reading by a gas lamp. But her husband, who is used to watching sports on TV, just sits in his easy chair in the dark, lol.

Well you and Jarg take care.

Remember, you should always have a bike-pedalled generator next to your computer for UT. The UTUPS.

M

i think quite a few of us are in NC; looking at Schwantz's guest book, looks like Frag and Maliciousone are also in North Carolina. and then there're the guys and gals at Crusher's Place; most of us are in NC (some are in Arizona, Louisiana, and Texas). lucky for Crusher, it seems that his server was out for just 12 hours.

UTUPS. sounds a bit difficult to guide those missiles around tight corners while pedalling..

by the way, a pleasant surprise did come out of this ice storm.. my team won in our first match in the team DM tournament at Crusher's Place (against one of Crusher's teams). we crushed them on Deck16 in the first game and stopped their comeback on Liandri in the second. and that's regular UT. what makes it special is that our win puts Crusher's only remaining team in the loser's bracket.. one more loss and both of his teams would be out..

- clemmentine

____________________________________________________________
...
