Post subject:  For Ad-Aware users

I have used Ad-Aware for about a year now. I use the latest version. Yesterday, I rebooted the machine and updated my Ad-Aware 6 then ran it at full strength. I found several spywares on my system and I quaranteened them. I rebooted and installed and updated the files for a program someone here mentioned. It is called SpyBot Search and Destroy. I ran it using the tutorial that came with it. It found tons of other stuff. I told it to fix all of it and then did what it calls an innoculation. I rebooted again and everything still works but I had to resupply my passwords since it cleared them for me. Everything still works fine too. Thanks whoever mentioned this program. "I" have had great success with it. I would give it a 10 on scale to 10 but it was a little tuff to run since the tutorial isn't accurate. Thnaks again.

That's interesting, Herm. I always assumed that since Ad-Aware deep scans your registry, etc. when used at full strength, that it did a more thorough job than Spybot S & D. I like Spybot because it runs so much faster than Ad-aware. I like the immunize feature of Spybot too.

I'm always very suspicious of freeware, of the sort that adds toolbars, etc. These programs are so often full of spyware, homepage hijackers, and phone dialers (programs that redirect your 56k outgoing call to your isp to a more expensive telephone company than the one you were using), that I just won't have them. These two programs are great for rooting out such crap! :)

I've been running them both too. It is surprising how one picks of some items that the other ignores. I just gave Window Washer a shot it cleared up 1.8 gigs on my hard drive. not bad for two minutes time.

I picked the settings on windows washer to leave my passwords and form filling files alone. They all seem intact.

Post subject:  You see...Mozilla rocks!

Funny thing about the crazybrowser program is that 2 of its features (the popup blocking and the tabbed windows)have both been in Mozilla for quite some time...and on top of it, Mozilla is Open Source!

Interesting. I got it into my head that due to the similar names, Mozilla was a relative of the evil Go!zilla, a spyware laden 56k download manager. D'oh!

What are the advantages of Mozilla over IE? I mean, for example what is tabbed browsing, and why would I want it?

Well, here is 101 reasons to start you off; here are my reasons.

1. Tabbed browsing - You ask, what is it good for? Its good if you are like me and you like to browse 3 different sites at once;this way you can keep them open in 1 window.

2. Its Open Source!

3. Due to its openness, there are so many mods and addons out there for it; Themes, even a monitor for UT2003 servers.

4. Cross platform - Mozilla runs on Win32, Mac OS X, Linux, AIX, HPUX, Irix, OpenVMS, OS/2, and Solaris(both SPARC and x86 flavors). If your OS isn't listed, it usually means that you just need to build yours from source(no big deal). This is important to me since I have a Win2000 box, a WinXP Laptop, a Linux server, and soon a FreeBSD Firewall/VPN/Mail server.

OK...I'm spent.

A GIG OF SPACE?!?!?!?! GREAT GOOGLY BOOGLY!!

I have one word for you, DM... Defrag...

I used Windows Washer and got a measley 54 mb. I tend to keep my computer pretty clean of the crap, using Spybot and Ad-Aware. Ya gotta keep those cookies and histories clean if anyone else uses your computer. wink wink.
