I tried to open a file tonight using the "open with" command. Too bad I forgot to uncheck the "always use this program to open this type of file" box.
Now I have the wrong goddamn program always trying to open the file, thanks to the stupid cursor moving down one choice just as I left clicked.

How do I undo this mistake? :? I have other types of files that I would like to open with some other program too, and they're similarly trapped. :-x (Hey Bill Gates, you stupid dork, why did you set up the "open with" command so that that stupid little box is always checkmarked "yes"??)

LOL is your computer trying to open all your pr0n mpgs with notepad?!

Hmmmm. I used to know the answer to your question, but I haven't had that problem in such a long time -- I'll have to tinker around with my old win98 laptop and get back to you.

Hi Glider!

Simple fix! Go to the file you mis-associated. RIGHT mouse click the file and choose "Open With" again. Choose the CORRECT app to open it with and again make sure "alway open with this app" is checked. This should re-associated the file with the new app.

Thanks Mickey, but the problem is, I can no longer choose "open with". Only "open". I tried renaming the file with a different extension, but then I couldn't get it to be "seen" by the program, even when I chose the "all files" option.

What I'd really like to do is stop having Apple Picture Viewer as my default program for looking at picture files. It's so resource hungry, that it soon slows the old PII to a crawl.

Oh, and by the way, you're right Mah. It was some "porn" I was trying to look at. It was that looping pic of the dumb blonde who pulls up her shirt that Skank or SB posted so long ago. I thought she'd be perfect as the pic of the dumb blonde you wanted to see. Sure enough, the web address was on the pic, but you have to be a member of JJ1.com to get into the web site. So you'll have to use your own copy of that pic if you wish to be titillated.

Try this. Go to Windows explorer and select tools and then options. Options might also be under File or View. If you find that, that is where you'll find the file associations You might have to delete this association and then do as MickeyM suggested.

cant you just go into the other viewer you want to use and set that to view them like you can the mpg players all mine used to be windows media but i like realplay better so picked that to be used in its preferences list as primary player not sure if you can do it with the pics tho i do know if you load ashampoo pic viewer it takes over from all other viewers and also corel does the same so that might be one thing to do.
Dark

Glider !!! Do a Shift+Right Click. That should bring up Open With for you.

But would you go back to OS 6 or 7, whichever was out at the same time as Win98?
