I couldn't stay connected to CG. No matter what map, within seconds the red flag of death showed up.. several people were playing. Did anyone else have this problem or was it some sore of cow discrimination?

This was late afternoon pacific time.

lol I bet they are out to get you.

I haven't logged on today (wife), so I couldn't say. Did you try PingPlotter to see where the problem might be?

Peace out,

One, the nephew is in and downloaded a ton of music for the wife so he can burn her some new CD's. Two and most likely the big reason, my router. I have posted to a UT Admin board asking if any are better than others for UT serving. I've seen many people renamed to Player5 etc and each time, there was massive traffic going on at the time. The traffic from number 1 of course. Three, I still have to blame it on the router again but I know there are others using the same LinkSys BEFSR41 4 port router. Four, I wish I had another excuse but I'm all out. I did find the server off earlier and I was talking with Mick, my cousin and while he was watching the server board, he said it switched back and forth between 9999 and a actual ping. Another thing I just thought of is electrical interference. I'm sitting here looking at all of my network cables all tangled up with everything else but that would do it to everyone then wouldn't it? Too tired right now. I will mess with it tomorrow night. Good Nite all!

Hey Herm:

Those are all pretty valid reasons. LOL. What you described was exactly what occured. Names changed to PlayerX etc. If you're serving a game then the item that would cause the most problems would be if your nephew was also allowing music to be shared from your server PC. I have played with 3 different NAT routers here and believe that they are problematic at the best of time so again another valid reason. I currently have a SMC on one IP and the 4 port Linksys on the other port. The ut2K3 server is thru the SMC and seems to have less problems when serving a game.

The linux weenies have told me for months to make a linux firewall/router but once again, that requires another PC and two NIC cards.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the server showed the name as Player X and what I couldn't believe is that in my player setup, the name had changed from Schwantz to Player. I thought that was strange for the server to actually changed my setup..

Do you rememeber a player named Loki? He had built his own map and I ran it for a while. It was called Loki's Village if i recall. That map always changed everyones name to player name AND it changed your skin to a Nali War Cow too! I don't know what is going on here with the server but I'm not liking it any!

you're not alone Schwantz. for the last two nights (late Saturday night and late Sunday night, Eastern Time; can't remember about Friday night), it's been disconnecting me whenever it feels like it.. the difference here is that my player name was never changed this time around (getting major lag mid-game and recoving as Player X (in player setup) had happened to me many months ago). I'm completely disconnected this time around and had to reconnect and my player name remained the same. my player name wasn't changed could be because I used the server browser to reconnect instead of going to 'reconnect...' right in the menu. I did notice that other players have their names changed to Player X. just looking at the pings in the server browser, I'm guessing that the same thing is happening to HoH as well. in the server browser, my pings to CG and HoH would shoot up every now and again while the other servers remained about the same. my guess is that it's caused by your nephew downloading music, since the server would run perfectly fine for a while and then all of a sudden the red icon of doom would appear and I'd be disconnected after a while, though I didn't get disconnected every time the red icon came on.

Herm,

This is just to confirm the above. Server dumped everyone at 7:29 p.m. PST tonight -- Monday. We had a couple of scares earlier on, when the red light of death came on, but then resumed as normal.

We had a good run of stability for a while there. Some new ghost has entered the machine!

The above is definitely happening. The server has got major diarrhea, and is washing us all out every 10 mins or so. Reconnect, and then, the red light/server fart happens.

2000 hrs.. same thing.. name changed to Player3.. did not change in my setup this time. About 1/2 way thru DeckImpossible and blooooie! Lost connection. And I was winning too!

Seems to be getting worse Herm. You may want to remove all mutators except for the redeemer one and see if it is any more stable.

Yeah, seems I'm having trouble with three PC all going through the router different ways. I found CG playing but unavailable to anyone for the second time this week. I'm going to shut them both (CG + HOH) while the nephew is here. I hope some people come back after I bring them back up in a week or so. Peace all! I'll see you on the other servers. By the way, I think his 4 different chat programs is the problem actually. He (the nephew) told me he hasn't really been downloading that much at all.
