Hey Scify, here is that link again. Perhaps some of the more technically minded members can come up with a suggestion or two. :bom:

Does anyone have any insights into this problem? Scify I assume you are still suffering from the screen of black death?

When you get the blue screen does it give you a windows error code or does it just reboot?

For week it find but two day this week it did it again.

I try that Intel® Boot Agent is compliant to the PXE 2.1 download software. That didn't fix it. :drunken:

One I get some about Boot Agent is compliant to the PXE 2. then it say it can't find a file or something like that. then it goes to window logo. then screen goes black screen 30 to 40 minute then I get my wall paper.

sorry for the question but why are you using boot agent?

i was getting the black screen but that was down to a webcam driver that was corrupt so i booted in safemode uninstalled the software and all was well.

what about system restore? would that work,

or a drastic measure would be reinstall xp ;( do you have a xp disc?

could you not try the repair windows option?

all options would depend on the boot agent question sorry if i cant help more but without error codes its real hard

Did you try any other restore points? b4 this problem started

well the repair option is when you put the xp disc in and go through the install screen it gives you the option to repair instead of reinstall it may just be a corrupt .dll file but if its a boot agent error then that would point to the fact that its a boot agent problem i just wondered why you was using boot agent.

Quote:
The Intel® Boot Agent can be used to boot a diskless workstation or to install an operating system on a new computer. The computer receives the boot image over Ethernet through an Intel® network adapter

thats the description of boot agent are you doing this or can you just take it off?

the other way to try is to boot your computer in safe mode think you press F7 or F8 when its just starting and it will give you some options to start i think its boot with command prompt then when it hangs it will say on screen what its loading when it hangs so it may give you a clue whats making it do it.

the framework 1.1 thing.... you could go to control panel and add remove programs then uninstall any framework updates then do another windows update & start again.

EDIT:

Just reading through the boot agent stuff you can disable it if needed

Quote:
To prevent the Boot Agent from executing, enter your systems BIOS configuration and find the boot device order settings. Move the boot agent further down the list, preferably after the hard drive or whatever device you prefer to boot from.

or

Quote:
The Boot Agent will initialize during the system startup, even if it is not the first boot device. During the time the initialization screen is displayed, you can press Control-S to configure the Boot Agent's internal settings

or turn it off

Quote:
To prevent the Boot Agent from even initializing, you can turn it off completely. The Intel® Boot Agent can be completely turned off by using the IBAUtil.exe DOS utility found in the PROBOOT archive, using the command line IBAUTIL - FD

NOTE: The instructions above assume a plug-in PCI adapter. With network interfaces that are built into the main board, such as the Intel® PRO/1000 CT Network Connection, the Intel® PRO/100 VE Desktop Adapter and the Intel® PRO/100 VM Network Connection, the Boot Agent is embedded into the computer BIOS and must be configured through the computer BIOS. In these instances, the IBAUTIL utility will not work, and Boot Agent upgrades must be obtained from your system vendor as part of a BIOS upgrade

I know it may seem daunting all this infomation but i was trying to cover all bases i would suggest if there is anyone nearer to you that maybe they can ring you on the phone just in case you need the instructions
if i can be of more help let me know i use msn all the time
its theone@home-of-the-one.co.uk just add me im happy to try and help
im in the UK so remember that if im not about
