There is a new server in town. Please visit it regularly and make comments about it here so RAIN can get it set up the rest of the way. Nice work RAIN.

From my understanding he runs it from his PC and not from an outside web server.
So, downloads are slow unless you have the maps already and he only has it on
half the time.
Again, nothing special but a start.

First, congrats to RAIN ( see RIAN on the servers all the time ).

Second, a question about servers. Can map downloads be redirected to a "web" server for downloads? If so I have a butt load of extra space on my hosted server and would be willing to put maps and UTX files on it for folks like RAIN to redirect too.

The answer is yes and in fact, it is the preferred method and the way I do my server. My server runs from my house but any downloads my server needs to send to anyone are from a server in L.A. California actually. That is why they call them redirects.

I sort of figured that was the case. Are your files in a FTP directory or just a plain http web directory?

In any case, I just checked and I'm only useing 1 Meg of my 10 Gig host. So if anyone would like their files hosted on a pro host just let me know.

That is a tough question actually being that web stuff kicks my butt. I use a webserver from www.ipowerweb.com . I am very pleased but Idon't like that they don't have a 1-800 help desk number and the support can be lacking at times.

I have two directories. On is a FTP directory and another is a PUBLIC_HTML directory. I have all of my compressed UT files listed in a folder under the html directory. I hope that answers your questions. To be honest Idon't know why they offer two since either way seems to have the same results as far as where I put stuff.

Teach me if you know. Thanks!

Thanks Herm! Yes that answered my questions. My hosted site is with www.regiser.com and my e-comerce areas are running on a system here in my office under MS-IIS 2. That's why I can't put a server up myself but again I would be more than willing to host files for anyone running a server from home. I doubt that I'll use more than maybe 3 meg total on the hosted site. I use it more as a domain portal to my local server.
I was wondering, what is your average transfer per month for your UT files from your host?
