Apart from keeping upto date is there any other way to secure a php forum?

No idea on this but would advise all owners to keep upto date and back up as several game forums have been hacked and wiped in the last few weeks....

This forum IS under CONSTANT attack!

You have to keep updating it and use things like visual confirmation. Also, always make sure to set it up in such a way that you have to enable every user by hand.

Bots are signing up users at the rate of 10 to 20 per day. That's why I am working on a trick that defeats the bots automatic signon. In th eprocess I temprarily broke the profiles - sorry.

I hope this helps.

Man, that's a bummer! Just out of curiosity, which version are you running?

I use phpBB 2.0.21.

UPDATE

Well we decided to go with just phpbb as all the mods on fully modded seem to have a lot of security issues.

Yep. An the more you mod it the harder it becomes to keep it up-to-date. I am still working on a mechanism to defeat the automatic user generation by bots. Yesterday I had the first message posted by a bot. That's a first ...
