Is there a good freeware program out there that will allow me to rip my favourite tracks from my cd's and convert them to the MP3 format all at once?

I want to put all my personal favourites onto this little MP3 player I bought recently, and I'd like the program to be fast, and efficient. I'm aware that there is some quality loss when you convert from the cd's .wav format to the mp3 format, but I don't know if some programs cost you more signal quality losses than others.

So, what's the best freeware program out there?

Most free media player rip them like realpayer and other but IF you itunes only use it for IPOD

I haven't ripped any CDs in a long time but what I use to use was a program called dBpowerAMP Music Converter. Got a friend that uses it like it is a religion or something but if you want to check it out the sites is: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/

Small, simple, tons of settings and does a pretty fine job I must say.

Not sure if it is still free or not but give it a look.

Since we're on the subject, where can we find FREE good music?

I just use realplayer to rip mine have it set for mp3 @ 128 Kbps sound ok to me.

Free music hey? Ever try using bittorrent before? Download one of the many bittorrent clients and then head to:

www.mininova.org or www.torrentreactor.net

Normally use it to download my favorite car shows (fifth gear & top gear) but both sites have music sections. Good luck!

I use Easy CD/DA Extractor. It is shareware that can be used with speed limitations. If purchased, it is really fast and has lots of options for ripping and burning.

Thanks all, and thank you Scify. I used WMP tonight to get started. I like that I could specify the quality level I wanted. And since I used to be an audiophile; I used the highest quality setting.

And thanks to you too Kidcapri. dBpowerAMP was also recommened to me at another forum. I'll look into it.

I suppose I should open the box the MP3 player came in and check out the included software if there is some, but I was thinking of taking it back. I'm pissed because I bought it at Costco, and Staples is offering the same damn thing this week for $20 less.

As we all know any true audiophile who has done their homework buys their music player at a wholesale club or an office supply company and then uses freeware to rip their music. I'm guessing you still have a floppy drive on your PC to.

In all seriousness what MP3 player did you buy? What was the reason for your choice? Price? Features? Song capacity? Size? Weight? Just curious.

If you take it back I advise doing some research into the best MP3 player and service out there. Any true audiophile would do this and not just buy what was on sale.

I have used many over the years. I have landed on and stuck with one called LimeWire version 4.8.1 . I would not upgrade it or change it for the world. It gives me solid finds and downlaods just about every single time. Can't beat it.
