Post subject:  Tournament Scoring. A new method.

The DOU server uses a statistic called Efficiency to judge how people are doing. This is simply a ratio of frags to deaths. I have decided to make the scoring in this tournament dependant on the players efficiency.
The formula is simple. FRAGS * EFFICIENCY = SCORE
Let's look at the sample below.

Player Frags Eff. Score
Player A 30 50% 15
Player B 28 67% 18.76
Player C 25 80% 20
Player D 20 95% 19
Player E 15 50% 7.5
Player F 12 70% 8.4
Player G 5 100% 5
Player H 1 90% 0.9

As you can see, Player A won the game, BUT for tournament scoring, Player C was the best.

This will, in effect, put everyone on more even grounds. Runners and Gunners will have to be very careful not to die too many times, or their high frag count will be offset by their eff. Hiders and Guiders will have a high eff. but maybe not a high frag count.

There will be 10 maps played. These maps will be determined by the players using mapvote. It will be interesting to see who votes for what, as everyone has their favorites. I imagine that this will be a chess match in itself. Image

Each persons two lowest scores will be thrown out and the final score will be an average of the remaining 8 scores. More on this later.

I will be the score keeper, as this will be the first official tournament between SRA and DOU. I have been a member of SRA for years, and I am also now a recruit for DOU. I will be completly fair and honest in judging the tourney. I invite everyone to take screenshots of the final scores to keep me honest.

One last thing. To receive a final score, a player MUST play in eight of the ten maps. This is in case of disconnect, or real life issues. This is why the two lowest scores for each player will be thrown out.

Well folks. There ya have it. This gives everyone a little to think about for thier game plan.
If you have any other suggestions, please share them in this thread on whatever board you read it on.

Should be very very interesting. This efficiency rating is will impact redeemer play seriously. All the regs know that in order to win, you have to stop caring about dying and just get your spread/hook off. Now we have to care about dying again.

The efficiency factor will favor hookers/behind-the-boxers. Which is, of course, fine by me.

Looking forward to this,
Mah

The main thing to consider is self death. Suicide.
A good player can make a hooker kill themselves. This is the worst case scenario for any player because it negates 1 frag as well as adding one death. Hookers put themselves at the most risk because the hooks must be fast to get around their "box" without killing themselves in the process. I believe that this will help equalize the scores, but I really am not sure.
Also, the mapvote will be of great interest here as well, as the great hooking maps are smaller usually. If I see you voting for a hooking map, I may try and counter that vote with a larger map.
AHH... Just had another thought.
On this server, the number of frags a player has equals the number of votes that player has. If you have 30 frags, you get 30 votes. 20 frags =20 votes, etc. So if you win, you will have a better chance of playing a map that you rule on...
This is gonna be FUN!

Nope! I'm out. Too many rules. Unless you can move all of the rules at least 4 inches to the right. Then I'll consider this fair and play. Also, these are all your rules. I'm going to play normal and consider myself victorious each time I hit the final score first. "You Damned Dirty DOU" (Said like Charles-what's-his-face in the 1st Planet of the Apes) have been practicing your efficiency all month long haven't you??? This smells like a set-up but I'll use the power of the force to guide my shots. Yes, I've been drinking some.....and there went some more........and more.......pffft!

Its a pretty good system its the way the stats on counterstrike are done on psycho stats its done with the kd ration (kill death ratio)

Herm, Please reread this when you sober up a little. I think you will see that this will benifit you with your playstyle.
There are really no "rules" per se. Just a different scoring. And nope. Neither myself nor, as far as I know, the rest of clan DOU have been practicing efficiency.

OK, I can see clearly now. Man, that one beer I had really got to me last night. Yeah, I'm a light-weight drinker. A cheap date, whatever you want to call me. OK, it all looks good from here. In the words of the ref from the first two Tyson - Holyfield boxing matches....."Let's get it on!"

After toying with efficiency a bit, I notice that at also appears to take into account the time of the game. Specifically Frags per hour. I just played a game on Contact where I had 30 frags, 16 deaths but an efficiency of 76%.
Hmm. Maybe run and gun will not be as difficult as I thought.
