A regular from my forum asked me about doing a tournament on CG. I refused as usual but I do like the idea for all of you and I know how much fun you folks had when ya'll were doing this on Bigi's server before so Itold him I'd mention it over here.

What do you think? I think that it should happen as before basically. Quickly determine how many and which maps will be used. Then determine what time everyone will show up at and who all will play. Password the server (Kidcapri's) and have BlondeHottie or someone keep score. Post results here. Repeat weekly!

Any takers? Kidcapri? Mickey? Bigi? Anyone besides me? Leave me out of it as I don't have time and just plain don't want any part of this except to voice the request. Thanks!

As I said on your forum, I loved the tourneys on Bigi's server. The only thing is the decay with my timezone and yours !...
But if it's ok about time, I should be glad to do qome tourneys !!!Image

I would not have a problem running it over at my server but there are a few things I will need some filling in on. Let me see.

#1 - Should the tournament be held on a weekday or during the weekend? It would be alittle easier for me to do this on a weekday considering when the weekend comes around I try to get out of the house more.

#2 - What time would roughly be the best for everybody to do this? I'm located in Central time zone. It would have to be at least after 6 p.m. due to work if the tourny is run on a weekday.

#3 - How many maps? Which ones to run?

#4 - (Admin Question) - When setting up the server do you have to have it set in tourney mode? Do you run mapvote or just set it to cycle all maps? I'll do some testing with this stuff so I might have my own answer to this but any help would be nice.

I'm sure other questions will pop in my head as the day goes on but those are the main ones I could think of right now. Just let me know.

1. It should be on a weekend I think. Most people are off and if not, I think they are at least off on a weekend night.

2. It should started twice. Once just after 7:00 PM Central and again maybe (Round 2) just after 9:30 PM central. This lets a couple people be in the first round and yet not have to play too late and others into the 2nd round and not possibly too late or early.

3. I never played the 1st tourneys so I don't know how many maps. I think 4-8 maps was the standard last time with about a 15 minute time limit per map. As far as which ones, use the first 8 mentioned here on this thread by request starting now w/ a max of 2 map suggestions per player. Have then officially call themselves in the round too like bigi and Vette already have.

4. Tourney mode on, No map vote used. Just cycle through the same 8 maps and only allow the registered players who requested to be in the tourney the p[assword to the server. That should work nicely!

I don't know if my answers/suggestions are right but I think it's how I would do it if I were doing this instead of being my regular server nazi self. I like that too! I'm going to put "Server Nazi" in my signature I think! I think the hardest thing is getting someone in as a spectator I guess to keep score. Other than that, it either all works or fails based on people showing up on time. Look through the archives here and find the post about "tournament". Read those and see how everyone did it last time. Someone wake up BlondeHottie and tell her she is needed. She loved this stuff last time. Meat and LePoLoo are the ones trying to get folks from another Redeemer Arena Forum and server to join in too! I bet they jump right in but will swear all of you are cheating in the end. They are little more noobish than you old farts here! Thanks! Later!

About number of maps, ask Bigi. He's got a good experience about tourneys we did on his server years before.

If we could do tourneys on the server you recently discovered, we could be up to 12 or more players... Let's see it with Tommy (the admin)

And a week end seem to be the good period. It allows any player with any timezone to find the time he likes (or can).

We made a thread for the tournies back when I was trying to get them going regularly....

http://www.redeemerinsanity.com/bbs/vie ... php?t=1547

That was my last post.

If need be, I have no problem booting my old server machine up and hosting one.....I can play and host at the same time.

also, for scoring, I could take a screen shot of the score at the end of each round, and tally the results once the tourney is complete.....if BH is not available to referee....

Here we go...I think I got my port settings right on my router.

Can anyone connect to this server, or see it on the master list...

SRA Tournament Server

It's :54 Central. I tried and was only able to see the black UT screen with the IP Address. I was not able to enter but there weren't any errors or anything either. This is a port issue for sure.

Open UDP 7777-7787 and UDP 27900 Sometimes you also have to open UDP 8777 and UDP 9777. If you are on XP, turn off the XP firwall and just use your router as your firewall. If you have Norton Firewall or ZoneLabs, good luck!

I put it in the dmz and it worked fine...I fogot the UDP 8777 and UDP 9777 ports, so it is out of dmz now with those enabled....

Anyone care to give her a test run....?
