Although I am typing this on an Intel rig, my next rig will be AMD all the way. The P-4 is just not efficient enough, and AMD makes a better processor overall, imho.

Can you say dual core??

My old system took a dump 2 weeks ago. My new one is a AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 512 DDR RAM.

Thanks Mickey. Just rub it in as all of my caps are blowing all over the place. Just kidding of course. How do you like the new rig? What was the old rig? What have you noticed is the biggest difference stepping up to new raw power?

Ya Jarg. This processor is going to be fun under XP 64. From what I'm reading you'll be able to assign programs to use one or the other core or both. LOL run UT99 on one core and UT4k on the other.

There has been talk for years about this happening and each time it has been an overblown rumor and nothing more. I am having some misgivings about this time around though. It seems to be getting a lot more air time than usual this time around. I'm hoping it is just a rumor though. Rumors have it that they will likely use them in their Mac Mini's. In about 40 minutes Steve Jobs will be delivering the keynote at the WWDC and we'll know one way or another.

I thought this was a little humourous

Well I wasn't expecting them to swap completely but apparently they are. This will be a defining moment in Apple's history. It will be the beginning of the end or this will be the lever that lifts their market share. This is a gigantic gamble.

This has a lot to do with the press release by Motorola that they will discontinue any developement in the PC market and are going back to processors designed to be used in the industrial controls field ( were they started ). I heard the new about the chips maybe 4 months ago. I was wondering at the time what Apple was going to do next.
My only surprise is that they went with Intel instead of AMD. I think that was the big mistake as AMD processors are far more like Motorola than Intel.

Fah, Just be glad that Microsoft is not programing OSXI ;)

I think it will be a shot in the arm for Apple. I am SURE that Intel can produce processors at a cheaper cost than IBM.

What is really weird is that IBM is also going to produce the processors that will go into the next X-Box. The 360.

http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000267042765/

Hmmm... IBM ditches Apple after announcing that it will partner with Microsoft....

Hmmmmmmmmm....
Smells fishy... :?:
