Post subject:  RIP: James Doohan

Well, it seems we have lost another member of the original Enterprise crew: James Doohan (aka 'Scotty'). Unless you haven't heard, he passed away this morning. The cause of death was pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease. Having met the man on numerous occasions, I can say that he was quite a character in person, enjoyed life, and really appreciated his fanbase. A sad day for Star Trek fans everywhere.

Warp speed, Mr. Scott.
One to beam up.

Yes. I just heard as well. He seemed to be a decent man. Time to get the old series on DVD and watch it all over again.

The ashes of the late James Doohan, Star Trek's 'Scotty,' are to be sent into space.

Doohan died of Alzheimer's disease and pneumonia at the age of 85 at his Washington home yesterday morning.

Before his death Doohan had discussed with his wife Wende the possibility of sending his ashes into space, like the show's creator Gene Roddenberry.

BBC News reports that Doohan's ashes will be sent on a Falcon 1 rocket launching later this year, which will also carry the ashes of Star Trek writer John Meredyth Lucas, who died in 2002.
