Do not compress them Scify. How much space do you actually have left. If you have a 20gig hard drive and you used up half then you still have 10gigs. That is more space than you will use by the time you get rid of that computer. Do not compress. |

Scify, Really all you need to do is get another hard drive. You can get great bargains and they are east to install. Expect to pay a dollar a gig. If you feel uncomfortable installing it, then have a friend do it. I am sure you know someone that would do it for free. |

You could do it Sci. Like most 1st time experiences its a little scary at 1st. But if you were to add an "additional" hardrive as a slave you almost couldn't go wrong and if you did look at all the friends you have here to help you out  |

Ya know.........that might be exactly what I do next time around. I see these big usb drives everywhere. If it's usb 2 isn't that a faster transfer rate than the regular cable? Can you install and boot from one of these too? I bet you can. Hmmmm? |

If the motherboard BIOS supports USB boot, then sure. Scify, I am sure you can do it. Just screw it in under your current hard drive. Before you do, you will need to set the jumper on the HDD to Slave. The power connection is easy and so is the cable. All that will be left to do is formating the drive. I could call you and walk you through it. I t is that easy. |

All your cables should already be there. Should just take setting the jumpers, screwing it in, attach the two or three cables, tell XP its there, and your good to go. Some times I need help reminding me how to tell Xp its there. The dollars Vs gigs, you just can't beat an internal. My last drive 250 gigs for $99. If i get down to less than 100 gigs free I feel its time for a little more house keeping (happens a lot) |

I bought the drive and caddy seperate have to put them together myself but they still only cost £71 about $133 and its a 120gig drive cheaper then buying the big name make i seen here and there for that i would only get 40 gig drive installed and yes the usb 2 is much faster not sure about the boot part tho as i only want it as extra storage anyway.
