Either with a card reader, or using the cable that came with your camera, in a USB port, as soon as you plug in the card into the card reader, or plug in your camera, and turn on the camera; you should see an icon in your system tray indicating that you have a new device attached to your computer. Open this device, and you should now be able to look at the contents of your memory card. Then you can copy the photos onto your hard drive, either with the copy wizard or just by dragging and dropping the icons into a folder.

If all you are seeing is the safely remove hardware icon, without seeing your new device at all, I would say that you need to check your windows xp settings. In windows 98 you would have to install software before you could use this new USB device.

Two things to be very careful about:

1) NEVER format your memory card with the computer while it's in the card reader, every camera make has its own way of formatting cards.

2) NEVER "move" your photographs onto your hard drive. ALWAYS "copy" them. "Moving" them might cause your PC to format your memory card as it goes, and then you could have a problem getting your camera to see the card, and it might even be stubborn about formatting the card. For some reason, this is especially true about 128 MB cards. I don't know why.

When you have safely copied your pictures onto your hard drive, you can erase the card by formatting it in the camera, and you're good to go. ;) :)

Dare I enquire as to the rating of the pictures? Something akin to Victorias Secret?

Ciao, Skank :wink:

Speaking of the digital cameras...are there recommendations for a really good cheap model that will allow for a good zoom and quality pictures? I have the Sony Mavica (10x zoom) that records the pics onto a floppy disc. Certainly good for its price (and I definitely got my moneys worth), but I want something with more power and that will record more than 20 images at a time (not to mention that the battery dies after about 3 shots).

as mantioned above that is only a safe way of disconecting the device once you done the things you want, on my puter i look in my computer then its set as another disc example 'removable disc g'
open that and then you get the folders that the pics are in i always use cut and paste to move them once thats done use the safe to remove icon to disconect your cam making sure its turned off before you connect and disconect if its still turned on then it can wipe the memory card's and even cause system fault in cam itself.

For mortis
I bought the konica/minolta z3 just before xmas was told the ohhh you didnt buy that did you stories, but from using it seams 99% of the stories were either bad luck or lies the only one i found is the focus in bad light but from use bad light is very poor lit room outside at night works ok its
4 megpixal
12x zoom optical, further 4x digital (i have used the full 48x zoom and see no loss in quality)
with 256 card stores
640x480 = 1188 pics
1280x960 = 676 pics
1600x1200 = 412 pics
2272x1704 = 255 pics
i have mine set on 1280x960
is that enough pics for you :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
battery power is good but i do use 2300ma batteries
i llike the steady shot feature it does make a big big difference for the extreme zoom shots and even tidies up the close up shots too

hope this helps

I always get that system tray icon too, Scify. I always thought that it's just there for when you're done moving your pics.
