Well, this time, I did NOT purchase the latest and greatest. I got it for free. I purchased an ATI card a year ago, and it came with a free download of Half Life 2. Downloaded it. Played it for a bit....

It looks even better than Doom 3.
Great feel in this game. You would swear that some of the textures are real. For the gamers out there, the decision to purchase it is a no brainer. I would not suggest Valves downloading distribution site, called Steam. It seems a little glitchy to me. I may have to find the DVD version of the game and purchase it.

Did anyone else pick up this one? If so, please let me know.

I hate to say it but I am very interested in seeing this game. I have never seen any version of it but I hear it is very fun to play. I haven't heard anything about this latest release version. I just hope I don't play it and like it. If that happened, I'd have to put UT away.

Well, I have played the single player game for a bit, and I can say that, for me, it is MUCH more enjoyable than Doom 3. Again, the graphics are astounding. Better than Doom's in my opinion. If you liked the first one, give this one a shot. It plays much like HL.

That's what I'm saying. I have never even seen Half Life 1 much less this second offering. Does it have multiplayer functionality as well? What game engine is it? Does it install just like UT or like Doom or like some other game?

Yes, It comes with it's own totally different multiplayer game. You may have heard of it. It is called Counter Strike. It is the original game redone in the new engine.

It is called the Source Engine. A friend of mine was here today. He too has Doom 3, but was WOWed by the graphics in HL2.

No. I have never installed a game like this one. It was fully downloaded from Steam http://www.steampowered.com/
It basically does not install. It just kinda worked. It was a HUGE download, taking me 5 hours to get 90% of the game. It is playable at 90% and it downloads the rest as yo play.

Here is the official site. http://www.half-life2.com/
