Got the new computer going tonight worked out some issues and such but seems good other than my cpu temp is 134'f and sys is 100'f im sure that is a little hot but I haven't had time to clean up the wiring and install a fan or to in the front of the case which should help. There is also a Bios update which im a little hesitant about downloading . My front bus speed is 167 and 1922mhz at this moment according to the software which came with the motherboard. It has a auto selection which brought it up to 185 and over 2100mhz but after reboot it seems to go back to 166 or so which is what it is set at in the bios. Is that a normal speed for my chip 2600 athlon xp, should I increase or just leave it. Also there is this wave effect in the background on my monitor which is slightly noticeable seems ok in games but anything else is when I notice it any thoughts?. Other than that ut2k4 is awesome what a difference a newer system makes can max most features out with little or no lag. Thanks again for your help I quess I have a new addiction now :D |

167/1922 looks about right. so this looks like a model 10 xp 2600+. 185/2100 looks overclocked. wave effect. wave effect of what you see on the monitor? did you just get this monitor with the new pc or is it one you had before but did not have the wave effect? is your computer case wide open and sitting right next to the monitor? that may explain the wave effect. I've seen monitor exhibit what may be described as a wave effect because of proximity to an air vent. - clemmentine ( aegean_creek / everlasting_lórien ) |

I also get a wave effect when ironing clothes. I guess due to the iron being on the same circuit. I have to say this. I TOLD YOU SO :D The feeling of satisfaction of building your own PC is great. Too bad it is a costly addiction. Glad to hear that everything went smoothly. |

No it's my old monitor new vid card. Seems like it would be a eletrical interference. The case is downbelow away from the monitor. Right now it's ok because of the black background.Maybe after I clean up the wiring it will go away its always something.Lost my verizon connection again had to setup the modem again urgh....I thought the 2600 chip ran at or below 2600mhz. I feel stupid o'well still learning. It was easier than I thought to put everything together. What vid cards do you guys have I was thinking of the 6800gt once the price drops but not sure if my current system will handle it maybe a 9800pro Kid said he got his for under 2 bill's. Cant wait to play DoomIII >>>Thanks guy's :D |

Quote: I thought the 2600 chip ran at or below 2600mhz. Below. It runs at 1.9. AMD has a more efficient design than Intel, meaning less mhz gives more performance.. Quote: I was thinking of the 6800gt Does the GT version require a high power power supply and 2 connectors? Personally, I'd go for the ATI card. The X600 or X800. No high PS requirements, and they do not run as hot as the Nvidia. But I am also an ATI fanboy :D Quote: ...but not sure if my current system will handle it
If the PS is up to snuff, then you bet it will. |
