Ok I tried to set up my Dell 8200 as a UT 99 server today, just for the fun of it. I renamed a bunch of the bots, then had at it.

I still have no idea why my game won't show up on the server browser. Perhaps I'm leaving something undone?

Is there a good web site that will walk me through the entire set up process, so that I don't mess up ticking the little boxes, and filling out the fields, etc.? It looks so easy to do, yet nothing ever happens. :?

I expect to finish my set by set manual in the next couple of days. Can you wait that long?

Trying to help....NOTHING! Thank you!!! I haven't looke dat it yet but I hope to use it. Get this, I'm trying to figure a way to use a ram drive in order to launch CG. Wish me luck. On paper, it's totally possible. With green paper ($) it's a little hard. Hehehehe. I will do it before it's all over.

Ram drive!!! Awesome! Then set that batch file that reboots CG everytime it crashes, and bang! -- 5 second resurrection!

I'm sorry. What I meant by the time it's over didn't have to do with this build. The ram drive idea came to me about a year ago I guess. I don't have the money for the ram yet but it is a cool idea huh? Sweet thing about it is all I have to do is make a batch that will create it at boot up and put that in the start up with yes, a batch to start it as well and I should never have to check the server again and it should run at the speed of ram since it would never have to access the hard drive. All of that is while away. I'm still trying to get my map situation under control. The box for the server is good to go right now. It's the redirects that are going to be the trouble. I've been working on PC's since 6:00 PM Friday night. I had to fix two PCs for friends and my stuff for computers is still spread out all over from the move. I just wanted to drop a line about the plan. Looks like my bandwidth has been cut down some here so I may have to set max player load at 10 to ensure good game play. I need to call my cable about that too. Later!

So Herm you're saying that you intend to build a "disk drive" using RAM? That sounds very cool. Amiga's used to create a "ram disk" on boot up to help speed tasks along. I'd forgotten all about it. How much RAM would you need? (And for that matter, how much RAM can the new mobo's hold in total?)

Dunno yet. New boxes hold up to 3 gigs I think. That is a long while away for me but I already thought of another way to do it so that the entire OS and the entire game are actually just a single file that actually uses less room than it requires to run. I played with this tool about three years. They hadn't perfected it yet so video and sound were lacking or non existant tatoally. For a server, those things don't matter at all. The program name starts with a V and is only three letters I think. Like I said, I haven't used it in a while. Anyway, once I put every windows os there was on one box (or one file for this matter) and I actually put several instances of each on it. You actually assign how much space it thinks the hard drive has. you have to install the OS to exactly like you're building the actual box for the first time. When you're done, you just close the file. The actual file is very small. When you close the file, it saves it and your back to your actual OS. Each OS totally ports over to the one your actually running. Like this, you have entire virtual computers all inside of one file. You actually don't close the file, you power down the virtual pc. This saves the file. You actually have to power up the file just like a pc. This was a tool that enabled companies to make one box be able to simulate an entire network for training needs. Buying one program is far cheaper than buying an entire network of computers huh! Now do you see why this program is so cool?
